dj AND a band

i booked my dj last year and we're very happy with him. but now we're considering adding a band. we would still keep the dj and have him play during our ceremony, cocktail hour, our first dance, parent dance and when the band takes breaks.

do you think this sounds too complicated? has anyone ever been to a wedding with both a dj and a band? i know i have to contact our dj to make sure this works for him since we already have our contract. just wanted to hear what you ladies think! thanks!

my sister had a band (greek for the greek music) and a DJ for the rest. It worked out fine just very $$$....we were considering doing this as well but I am really not sure what we are doing yet!

I don't think it sounds weird. But i'd think about the logistics. Typically the DJ and Band set up in the same place in every room due to the electrical and outlet set up. That would be my primary concern. Also realize, with more people the more vendor meals and tips you'll have. If $ isn't an issue I'd do it. Just talk to your RH first about spacing.

Why not just add some musicians? I know my DJ company offers a percussionist which is what I'm hoping we have money left over for!

We are doing an iteration of this. We have the dj for dancing and making announcements and then a jazz trio for the down times and formalities - during the different dinner courses, dances, cake cutting, etc. We booked everything through our dj - bravura. It's definitely do-able!

DH and I considered this but ended up just having our band, Soul Revival . I know they have a DJ and frequently do DJ/Band combo...it is a good option for a lot of people too. They were awesome too!!! HTH!
