DJ at our backyard (elegant) barbecue engagement party?

This august we are having an engagement party in my parents backyard. It's big and beautiful. We are going to hire a caterer to come in and barbecue (nice stuff like chicken breast, steak, lamb, etc). We're guess about 60-70 guests. My FI wants a DJ so bad and my mother does not at all. It's her house, but it's our party. My FI is upset because he feels like he's not getting any say in this party so far. Price isn't an issue. I could care less. What do you girls think? Seriously.
Oh, and to break down the guests more:
25 friends, 10 kids, 5 cousins, 5 siblings, and approx 20 family members.
And to be quite honest, I'm sure the FI will get his way and we will have a DJ, but I'm just curious about what other people think about this.

I'd say go for it if he really wants it. More because unless you have a groomzilla, the guy can sometimes get lost in everything so every once and awhile it's nice to do something that he really wants even if you're not 100% into it. JMO though, in the end it's up to both of you .

Tomorrow is our outdoor engagement party and we are mostly catering but also barbecuing. We are hosting our own party (this happened recently even though we aren't throwing the party per se) our house is just a better location since it's waterfront and we have the extra front yard across the street. Anyway, we were originally having a DJ because FH's brother/sister in law used to own a dj company and they still have all the equipment but now we're just setting up the equipment with a mac and letting it play. We didn't want the neighbors listening to an mc all day.

We're not doing an MC, strictly DJ. Basically we want music, with better sound than an iPod and some speakers could handle. Also, a DJ could pick and choose music, as well are play requests and we don't want to be bothered with that for that night. I think my FI wants it because the 3 other e-partys we went to for our friends had one, so now it's 'the standard' (1 of which were in a backyard). My mother doesn't want it to feel like a club with thumping music. I told her that's not how were doing it.

I understand, I was just speaking in terms of what we did for a similar situation. We have professional dj equipment so it wasn't as much of an issue.

You could try to reason with your mother as time gets closer but unfortunately I think it's kind of up to her because she's hosting and it's her home.
