Dj dilema

Dj dilema

Okay, so I've seen 2 DJs so far.

I had no idea what to expect when I heard the term 'showcase'.

So DJ A did a quick 20-minute showcase out of their storefront. Folding tables and chairs were set up, and for the most part the appearance was underwhelming. However, when I walked in, ALL of the DJs greeted us, shook out hands, and were very friendly.

They didn't have a full set-up in the storefront because it was a small space. So, I got to see some videos and photos of what a full set up would be like. As you can imagine, you don't get the full effect.

I went to see DJ B who did a 1 hour showcase at a reception hall. It was very high energy, as I could see the entire set-up. It was very visually impressive. They got us all up and dancing and I had a good time.

But, walking in there, I was only greeted by the manager. The rest of the DJs were all in the back talking amongst themselves.

DJ A was very nice. I get the feeling they go above and beyond to please their clients. Dj B, while putting on an impressive sales pitch, well, I'm not too sure about their customer service.

Here's the thing. DJ A - I have no idea what they can do live. They've been in business for over 10 years so I assume they have many satified customers. Especically reading LIW reviews. DJ B, I am well aware of what kind of show they can put on.

And finally, DJ A is about $1000 less for the package as DJ B. But both of the get good reveiws from LIW constantly.

So, I'm torn. Do I save $1000 and book DJ A not having seen their full set-up. Do all DJ's pretty much look the same once they set up?

i would find out from DJ-A if they can do a set up like DJ-B & if they can ask to see pics or something with it. For 1 grand less if you feel they have good energy & can get the crowd moving etc go with them. Overall if its wha tyou want im sure they can do it for u.

Personally, if I was in the same situation as you are, I would rather go with DJ A... I find the DJS communication with us a vital part. The manager is NOT going to be the one at my wedding...rather the DJS...so I would rather feel comfortable with the DJs then the manager. Specailly if you get the feeling that they will go above and beyond. Since they both have great reviews on here I would go with who you feel more comforable with.

Re: Dj dilema

does DJ A ever have a full showcase??? Or do they only do what they did for you that night every time??

Have you searched ppls reviews on DJ A from LIW?

I have a similiar situation, my FH knows a company through his work and their website is great, but not many girls used them when I search on here ( I think a total of 2 girls), but the company is in Queens.

If DJ A was more personable then I would go with them. I find that people who are friendly are more willing to work with you and what you want.

i think i know who DJ A is and when my FH and I walked in ... he was ready to walk back out! we had looked at two 'High end' DJ's that had amazing studios blablabla ... butt anyway after going in we soon realized that they knew what they were doing and they had amazing prices. I like that you get to meet the DJ's and MC and pick out who you want! we both really liked on of the MC's styles and know that if we do decide to go with them we want him! the proble with the 'high end' dj's is that they just want too much money ... we can get so many extras with DJ A and spend less than we would for just a basic package with the 'high end' dj. i think DJ A is totally worth it and they have been getting amazing reviews from everyone! i went to this tea party wedding planning thing last night and the girl who was in charge said .. sometimes you just need to let go and let the professionals do there job ... this is what they do alll the time soo dont be nervous! and i guess she is right! if they are in business for over ten years and people have nothing but good thigns to say ... why not pick them!!!

I was talking with a coworker who said that the reason DJ B is so expensive is because they pay money to put on a showcase.

DJ A doesn't bother with it, and can reduce their overhead significantly - which means they pass the savings onto you.

I agree! We have passed on other vendors just because our personalities didn't meld the way we would have liked. Customer service is huge!

I think I know who DJ A is as well and a lot of girls are using them - I wouldn't let the showcase deter you from picking them. They put on a fabulous show from what I hear for an even more fabulous price!!

Ask DJ A when you are doing a showcase in a RH so that you can go see them live

Re: Dj dilema

I would go with DJ A.
After visiting SO MANY vendors u quickly realize not everyone has the same style. Some care more about putting on a show for a sale than actually doing a good job on the day of.
My photographer doesnt even adverstise and receives all of his business through word of mouth but the second i sat down to talk to him i knew he was the one. i was actually turned off by other photographers with big fancy storefronts.

If you got along with DJ A the best then go for it.

well if you wanted to tell us the names ( I understand if you dont b/c of lurking vendors) we could tell you if we have heard good or bad things.. if that would help your decision

Well, I know alot of brides on here actually have posted very good things about DJ A. Alot of them have booked with them, or have written great reviews.

DJ B has some good reviews, but when brides ask for opinions alot of them say there are much cheaper places to do just as good.

Re: Dj dilema

I say go with who you loved....don't always go with what people on here say was the better one...it is all a matter of opinion and if you loved the high energy and set up book DJ B.....besides you won't really have to deal with the DJ other than telling them your playlist and names of BP so if they were not as up front as the other DJs it doesn't matter because really they are there to get the party dancing and it seems like that is what they did. Good luck!!!

I think I know who DJ A is and their customer sevice has been wonderful!! I am have been bothering them for months with e-mails etc (I am OOT) and just saw them in a showcase this past wed. Just very professional and very dedicated to making our day special. there were 3 couples there and all 3 booked

You should go with who you are confortable with- they are basically the ones running the party. You need someone you can talk with.

GL and FM me anytime

Re: Dj dilema

well you said youve seen alot of great reviews on here about DJ A, so at least you know they have alot of satisfied customers.

Its hard because you also said that you loved Dj B's showcase, its good to see them in action. Remember that even with reviews its hard to tell if you'll like them, everybody is looking for something different. Also more important than the Dj, bc any dj can play songs you want, but an mc can really set the atmosphere. So compare the MC's from both companies. Again with reviews it can be hard bc some girls want a high energy MC who has alot of personality and others want an MC just to do announcements and not really talk too much and just play music. Although when i booked my DJ on their sheet they asked us how much do we want our MC to participate. Very energetic, very little and just announcements or moderate

Which one stands out to you more? and what is your gut feeling, are you leaning more towards one?

Also, is Dj b in your budget, something to really consider. If you love DJ A and think DJ b is out of your budget then go with DJ A. But if at the end of the day you would feel alot more comfortable and have peace of mind with DJ B and is in your budget then go with that.

Ask DJ A if you can go to a wedding he is doing soon to see them live. I know somebody who did this, their dj told them where they were going to perform and to pop in just to see them a little bit. But really think about this bc the dj is the one who makes the atmosphere for your wedding

Re: Dj dilema

Why do I feel like I can name both djs... well lets just say I have a feeling I booked with dj A and they did my eparty and it was beyond great. The seemingly cheesy set up is just that. They dont actually play your party in a store front - they play it in your venue which hopefully you think is spectacular so that will make them look even more amazing. If dj A is who I think it is (and fm me if you want to be sure) there are lots of LIW girls who will back them up, me being one since I already used them.
