I think it really depends on the amount of guests you are having. We are having about 165 and and our DJ said he could definitely handle that on his own, but its a lot of work, so we opted to get an MC as well. The MC gets more involved with your guests, but you can tell them just how much you actually want them to be involved.

Re: DJ, MC, both?
Usually one of the DJ's is also the MC. They get the guests on the dance floor...they tell them to kindly find their seats when dinner is being served...HTH

We have the same situation.

Re: DJ, MC, both?
I'm only having about 110 guests. We are having one person DJ/MC and he is bringing an asst.

I think you need both.

It also depends on how interactive you want the MC to be. We just need some announcements made here and there.

I think it all depends on how many guests you have and how much interaction you want. Usually one plays and the mc gets the crowd going.

Re: DJ, MC, both?
We are only getting a DJ and that is all we wanted. I hate when MCs are in my face or are saying dumb things to get people up. Just not my style.
Also, our friends and family don't need pushing to get on the dance floor, so we saw it as an unnecessary added cost. We booked with Vinny from High Voltage, who I have heard such great things about so I am not worried about not having an MC.
It's a personal preference and think about your guests.
Good luck.

Re: DJ, MC, both?
We're having a DJ and an MC - we don't want anyone to be in anyone's face trying to get them on the dancefloor or pulling them up to dance or whatever so we made sure to pick an MC who is more low key.
He'll make the announcements and work the crowd a bit - I have a feeling that only the young people will dance but I'd like for the parents and older crowd to join in so that's the MC's job - but he's not allowed to be pushy.

Re: DJ, MC, both?
I am having both only because I want my music changes to go smoothly. I don't think you necessarily have to have both. If you have confidence in your dj ask his opinion. Sometimes they are honest enough to admit they could do it alone.

Re: DJ, MC, both?
My DJ said it depends on the number of people you are planning on having. We went to a run through and he did a fine job by himself. Plus - if there is alcohol my friends and family need no help dancing

You should get a DJ and an MC. The MC just is there to get the crowd going.

Re: DJ, MC, both?
I went with both - but you need to like the MC's personality b/c some can be over the top.... I like an MC b/c he'll work the crowd and keep the party going.
