There are a few songs I KNOW I don't want to hear. Electric slide is numero uno. God, I hate that song with a passion.

Both. My dj had a very good laylist but i needed a special mix of music. So I had to make my own list also.

theres always special songs you definitly want played.. and things you dont.. like FI HAS TO HAVE 'our' song b/c were not using it as the first dance.. other then a few we definitly want and a few we definitly dont were going to let the dj decide what to play

We gave our DJ a DO NOT PLAY list which he stuck to! And also a list of other songs that we would like to hear. I think he played most of those.

just met with my djlast night and gave him a playlist- certain songs we want and certain songs we DONT!! he was very appreciative to the fact that we dont want the Chicken Dance and Electric Slide...

FH is VERY into music ... I am also, but not quite as much as he is. So I'm letting him write things down as he thinks of them.
That said, if he had it his way we'd be playing Hard and Classic Rock all night (not that easy to dance to!) However, we are doing this 'our way' so there will be a few choice Metallica and other songs that are fit to be played in front of the old folks... If you only knew what our entrance song was, you'd LAUGH !!
I DO have some very specific songs I want to hear, pop, dance, rock, ballads, etc... and I'm writing them down as I go along. Also a LOT of 'Not to play' songs (I'm with you on the Electric Slide!!) Our DJ (Vinny from High Voltage) lets you do ANYTHING you want and definitely sticks to your playlist!
However, just to please the crowd (so to speak) I'm having Vinny pick out some 'crowd pleasers' in other genres that I'm not as familiar with .. 'get up and dance' tunes from the 50s , 60s .. mostly to make the parents happy .. (I'll go and take pictures during those eras! LOL)
Oh, and we also have to throw in some Greek (his side) and Italian (my side) songs to please BOTH Families!

I have a list in my head of what I want played already. I also do not want that rock around the clock mix song thing played at all. I really dislike it...a lot.

Have you booked a DJ yet?
We're using Music by Michael. He has a password protected section of his website where you can search his database of songs, add them to your play or do not play list, etc.
He's really organized--anal even! I think that's why we booked him!
