DJ questions?

How much control did you girls have over your music selection? I'm a big music freak so I'm pretty particular about what they'll play. Was your DJ flexible with music selection?

Did you or will you have your DJ/MC do a low key wedding (they're basically there to play music and make announcements) or do you want them to be more involved and make your guests participate?

Did or will your DJ be using MP3s, CDs, vinyl or all of those?

What kind of package did you want/get? More lights? Giveaways?

And last but not least, what DJ company are you going with?

I met with Parties Alive on Friday, but I'd like to meet with other DJ companies. The guy gave me an offer, but it's only good until Wednesday (and he started out with Monday, but my sister 'bullied' him into Wednesday! LOL!! How sad am I!?!) My FH being in sales told me the DJ got me with a 'High Pressure Sales Tactic'. He's right. I left a refundable $200 deposit even though I had not met with any other companies yet.

Any info from you girls would really help me out right now!!!!

Re: DJ questions?

I booked my DJ in February '02 for my 7/4/03 wedding. They were recommended by a friend.

They provided me with a 'play' and 'do not play' list that I need to fill out about 1-2 months before the wedding.

We are getting a medium light package and a DJ & MC. No giveaways (I am having a more formal affair and did not feel the need for giveaways).

I mainly want the DJ to play songs and the MC to make annoucements and from time to time, motivate the crowd (but not too much). My crowd is mainly older people/family.

I booked Body Rock. Again, they were recommended by a friend and I believe they are the house DJ for the Scotto Bros. halls.

Good luck!

Re: DJ questions?

I booked Music by Michael and I have so much confidence in him, I am very excited! He was slightly more affordable then the other DJ's I met with, plus he does a great photo montage which is very hard to find. He has great lights, we are going with the lesser package. He is low key, does everything himself with an assistant. We could pick every single song if we want, but we are picking maybe 25 and he will tailor similiar songs for us. He is very passionate about his work and that is what I like the best about him. Everything is digital, on computer - he takes up very little space and does not put a cheesy sign with his name on it anywhere, which I really liked. He brings not only a back up computer, but also a large selection of CDs, just in case anything should happen to both computers! www.musicbymichael.com good luck!

Re: DJ questions?

I booked with Energy Entertaiment.

The MC and DJ are great. We went to my bosses wedding in June and they had also booked Energy with the same MC Mark and DJ. We had a blast. The music was great and everybody was dancing. Everybody kept talking about how great the DJ and music was. After that wedding I knew for sure that I had book the right DJ for the job.

Re: DJ questions?

We booked Get In Tune Djs.When we sat down with glen he told us we could pick out our own music, but im only pick out some.I feel they have a better idea what my guests will like.At least i feel thats part of there job and they know best.My mc is Andy not overbarring at all hes very classy. We saw them at a showcase they were great we booked them on the spot. With the dj we also got the percussionist and steel drum lady.We went to a showcase this past tuesday at the meadow club to go see them again, just to make sure we made the right decsion and after seeing the second dj company perform we know we made the right choice the other dj company was so unprofessional and had all kids working for them.

Re: DJ questions?

I second Music By Michael. I met with a lot of DJ's and he fit my needs the best. He has a wonderful wedding planner that he gives you, so you can choose all the music for the wedding. Instead of giving a list with X amount of songs. He is very accomodating, he spent a long time with us already. I am getting the smallest lighting package, and I am not interested in the lights. I am also not getting any giveaways of things like that. He was the most elegant approach to a DJ that I had met.

Re: DJ questions?

We booked Let Us Entertain You (they were recommended by a friend). We booked them in March for my 2004 wedding. Anyway, we have total control over what we want played. He told us to give him a list of what kind of music we want played and what kind of special songs we want played (dances with parents, etc.). We are getting a light show, giveaways, a bubble machine (instead of a smoke machine), costumes for the guests, an MC and a DJ for $1400. He makes a CD with all your special songs on it, so that it is easier for him to play those songs at the right times and at the end of the night you get to keep the CD that he made.

Re: DJ questions?

We too are picky (esp. FI) ad we want to make sure we picked a DJ who will play what we like and want to hear.

We felt most comfortable with Spin Around Sound. Tom took notes on what we liked in our first meeting and seemed to really get a feel for us. I also heard rave reviews about him on this board. His price was slightly higher than others we visited but we did not want to skimp on music. I think the price was about alittle over $1600 for 5.5 hours. They do give yu a pretty extensive questionaire to fill out before your big day to get a better idea what music you want to hear.

We are having white lighting. From our research we read that some lighting is nice if you have a big room which we do. Lighting will overpower a small room. Tom recommended the white lighting for elegance but yet still some effect. He said it will go nicely with the candles and the ivory linens in the room. No special effects. We do not plan on having giveaways.

Re: DJ questions?

I booked with Hypnotic Sounds.
He gave us a Play & Do not play list and I have total control over my music.
My DJ uses CD's & MP3's and rarely vinyl is it something older.
We got an incredible light show, bubble machine & smoke machine.
We also get to choose any favors/giveaways if we want them.
I do not have an MC, I can have one if I like, but I will leave it to my DJ since I know him for 10 yrs and saw him do countless weddings & sweet 16's I know his work and I feel nothing but relaxed.

Anything else I want him to do, I just say the word.
My DJ also uses some kind of colorless wires so theres no big ugly thick black wires all over the place.

I am paying well under $1000 since hes a friend.

Re: DJ questions?

How much control did you girls have over your music selection? I'm a big music freak so I'm pretty particular about what they'll play. Was your DJ flexible with music selection?

I had a lot of control...I gave my dj a huge list, and even he made fun of me, but in the end, I had exactly the kind of music I wanted at the wedding

Did you or will you have your DJ/MC do a low key wedding (they're basically there to play music and make announcements) or do you want them to be more involved and make your guests participate?

my dj did not speak much, as requested...my uncle even commented to me that he liked how the dj played music (his job) and he didn't have to hear him ramble on. the songs get the people dancing, not the dj forcing people to get out of their seats against their will...

Did or will your DJ be using MP3s, CDs, vinyl or all of those?
I gave my dj 2 songs that I converted from mp3 to wav...not sure if he could play the mp3. as for vinyl, we wanted the mother/son dance to be DH's fathers recordings from the 50's and 60's but all they had was record...we are working to get them onto CD, but we were not able to have it for the wedding.

What kind of package did you want/get? More lights? Giveaways?

no lights...no giveaways...not our style

And last but not least, what DJ company are you going with?
spin around sound
