We're getting married July 2010, and I haven't even started looking for DJs yet. We are looking for something really simple. We don't want a light/photo display, just someone who plays the music we want and doesn't play the music we don't want. We also want someone who is non-instrusive - just gets people on the dance floor but isn't on the mic all night.
Also, we are getting married at the Vanderbilt at Dowling. The reception room is shaped like a T, and we're a little worried that a DJ who has never worked there might be unfamiliar with the acoustics.
Any suggestions?

I haven't booked a DJ yet but I saw LI Sound at a bridal show and I thought they were very good. They sent me their pricing and I thought they were very affordable. You can also just have a one man show (pretty much one guy does the MC and DJ - so he probably won't talk as much which is good for what you're looking for).

I am using Docs Djs, Dennis is awesome and works with any budget. He also Dj at napper tandys in smithtown and miller place which is why we liked him. We want good music played that everyone can dance to.

You sound exactly like me! When i went to look for a DJ I wanted someone who played great music with minimal talking! I ended up using FM Entertainment. Frank was awesome and they gave us the best price!
