this seems to be the hardest vendor for us to book... we want a DJ that will play good music.. (no techno/rap) and will just sort of be laid back.. our families dont need an 'in your face' MC.. theyre crazy enough.. does anyone have any suggestion for a nice classy laid back DJ?
im checking into music by michael this weekend..

HIGH VOLTAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vinny is laid back and will play what you want him to. Prices, I feel, are excellent, although he was the only DJ I met with - we booked him on the spot.

I recommend FM Entertainment, they are not very showy or in your face. And they have great prices

We booked in the mood dj's. They really stand out from the rest. They have a lot of dj/mc to choose from and they range from young to old . I highly recommend.www.inthemooddj.com

I definitely would check out FM entertainment. THey are not a 'cheesy' dj and play only what you want to play.

Out of all the dj's I met with, I liked Bravura the best. They incorporate live musicians as well but you can do just the dj package. I felt they were really professional and not over the top. I found that a lot of dj's made my wedding feel like my sweet16!

We eventually decided on Bravura, but liked LI sound a lot too. Chris and Mike from LI sound were recommended to us, but were already booked for our day. We also like Big Hits. But I am very excited to have Bravura! We were impressed by their live music offerings.

Re: DJ suggestions..
I hear you exactly. I want no rap or techno at my wedding. FH & I listen to a lot of metal, rock, new wave, synthpop, industrial, classic rock....
I actually found out most DJ's will work with what you want. You just need to specify to them what you DON'T want.
I hear In The Mix is good, I will be looking into them. And I will be checking out FM Entertainment.
But I also got really excited to find in the vendor section here 'Alternative Sounds'. DJ Cody from Subculture (or maybe you know him from the old 92.7 WLIR) is a there. I just emailed them to make an appt.

any dj you book, you can tell them this. You can give them a must play list and then also a do not play list and say you dont want that style of music.
I used starlight express and loved them, they also did a great job of sticking to my playlist

Re: DJ suggestions..
we booked with LI Sound. alot of djs have a range of mc styles. if you want in your face thats what they will give you but if you want an MC that will only be around when people need to get on the dance floor then thats when that mc will make his appearance. just stress what you want and dont want. LI Sound was very accomadating to us.

I met with him at the showcase at Douglaston Manor last week. He seemed to really know what I was looking for when I told him about my themed wedding and he had ideas right on the spot for music and even suggested I get the videography and play parts of the Phantom of the Opera movie during dinner as opposed to just music alone.
