Okay I'll start off by saying I am biased -- I always wanted a DJ, b/c I want to hear Etta James sing 'At Last' and Lyle Lovett sing 'She's No Lady'. . .
but I went to a wedding last night that just reinforced my opinion.
The band played everything from Sinatra to The Cure the same way --
Why is it that Bands are considered the 'classier' choice?
All you Band-lovers, please tell me I'm wrong -- and which Bands do you love?

Re: DJ v Band
I prefer DJs. My friend got married last June and had a band (because her dad insisted). EVERY song sounded the same and it wasnt until 1/2 way through each song that we were able to figure out what they were singing. BUT... I love the 'live' feel that you get from a band. FH and I decided to get a percussionist in addition to the DJ to get that 'live' sound.

I wanted a DJ mostly b/c of the $$ but also because I like to hear my songs played EXACTLY the way I know them from the radio. I dont like the bands creative surprises LOL

Re: DJ v Band
we're doing band. I like the idea of a 'live' band playing.
I heard a sample CD from our band, and we loved all the different types of songs that they sang.
I think it depends on the band. Some sound all the same, others.. (hopefully mine) are very good at mimicing songs.

Get what you want. If you want the DJ, get that. I prefer a band and my band did a great job. People even commented that they sounded like the record. There are great bands out there that do a great job of sounding authentic.
