FH is pretty much letting me dominate the wedding planning, as he should Tonight he decided he would like a band. I have seen awesome DJs and I am under the impression that they are a much less inexpensive route then a band. He didn't want to hear that so too appease him I said i'll ask LI Weddings about that! Is a band going to cost much more then a DJ? I once went to a wedding with a horrible band and it has turned me off from wedding bands for life. Im trying to be open here for FH.

Re: DJ vs. Band
a DJ can cost you anywhere from 1k-3k, and band, 4K and up
DJ's are less expensive

Re: DJ vs. Band
Honestly, I've been to a million wedding this summer. I can not tell you want an IMPACT a good band can make. It steps up the party to something special. I know that it is expensive, and not everyone can afford it......so you got to do what you can do!
The wedding I went to with a band we didn't leave the dance floor. The band could play everything from soft music to kayne west to classics. It MADE the party. I've been to a bunch of weddings with DJs and people danced, but it wasn't the energy a band brings to the room. The next day everyone was talking about (a) the band (b) the food.
However, it is a HUGE investment, so you really have to think about it.
yes..definitely is a big price difference..but its a matter of personal choice...i had to have a band...a dj was just not something i EVER wanted...but thats just me.. Ya know..theres is such a thing as both...post about it and maybe soemone will know of one but I have seen a dj that has soem 'band members' so you get a taste of both...that may work for you too!

Re: DJ vs. Band
There are great dj's out there that are not as expensive as a band. If you FH wants a band and is not having an issue with the $- I say go for the band. It makes the wedding!

Re: DJ vs. Band
just really do your research if you are hiring a band... i recently went to a wedding and it was a combination of the song list and the style of the band.. i barely danced and I LOVE to dance!

What band are you referring to here? We are still looking for a good band and haven't been able to find anyone who's available and good!

Re: DJ vs. Band
I wanted a band. I couldn't find one that was less than 6K and that was a basic set up. My compromise was a DJ and I included some live musicians with him. I will have a live percussionist and I'm thinking of adding a sax player.

Honestly, we never even considered having a dj at our wedding. I love the way a good band sounds at a wedding, and if you get a great one, they will keep the party going all night! We decided on the band Paris and they are just amazing!

a DJ was never an option for us as well. A band is much more classier and we were really looking for amazing entertainment. We went with an amazing band out of NJ no one on here has mentioned them before. There is two main things that people remember about the wedding. The food and the band. So we put the most money into those things. To me nothing else is as important.
I have heard that The Mystic which is pretty good is on the lower end in pricing as well as Renegade. Both are around $6,000 and you can't go wrong with either one (they are considered more on the rock side but play everything)

As much as I would like to havea band it's just way to expensive. I haven't found one for under 5k... and on top of paying them you got to feed them too.
But I'm very happy with using a DJ.

I have been to weddings with bands that they were boring AND amazing , same with dj's . It really depends on who you hire .
I went with a band, I like the way live music sounds , and the band I picked ( the projekt ) is awesome!

Re: DJ vs. Band
really it should come down to your personal preference. there are a lot of great DJ as well as Bands out there... if you need some suggestions for bands, please FM me.
DH was the one that insisted on a band for our wedding. I'll admit there is something to said about musicians that can play great music, they have so much energy and can really get the party moving.
DJs can be lively and great too, but just make sure you put a can on the cheese factor that some DJs then to be (aka giving out glow sticks and favors)... it brings me back to when I being sixteen and being at a sweet sixteen.

Re: DJ vs. Band
I haven't found a Band that was under 6k myself...Ideally, I'd love a band but it's just too expensive and FH doesn't think its worth spending the extra money on when we can get a great DJ for like $800...and then FH said he'd make a great playlist and stuff...

Re: DJ vs. Band
We had a DJ and MC. We always wanted a DJ versus a band because 1) We love the original songs, not the way they are generally 'interpreted' by a band; 2) most bands have a limited repertoire and can't play all your favorite songs; and 3) a DJ/MC is a lot less expensive than a band. We did have a steel drum band for CH and a dinner singer that sang Sinatra and Louis Armstrong that were a big hit though It's up to you (or FH lol)...I would go see a few bands play and visit a couple of Djs before you make a decision (also keep in mind that with a band, there are more vendors to feed at your RH-not a big deal but it adds more to the overall cost).

Re: DJ vs. Band
When I was looking, the most inexpensive band I came across was the Touch. They are an all male band and have gotten good reviews on here. They wanted $6000 for a Saturday night in July but off season, maybe they'd negotiate.

We have a band. We booked the Caleps..they are in brooklyn. My aunt had them two years ago and we never left the dance floor. They are a little expensive but so worth it.
