OK.. we were all set on a DJ.. we even knew which DJ we wanted... then we went to FH's cousins wedding last weekend upstate and they had an amazing Band.
I priced both and the band is about 4k more than the DJ. I know I would be happy with either. Yes a band is different but 4K.. that is almost our budget for our honeymoon. What do we do? Please I need some advice. FH... who doesn't dance.... now is leaning towards band and I just don't know about spending that kind of money on a band.. when I could be happy with a DJ. Please advise!

Re: DJ vs Band
IMO...Dj Dj Dj!!
i do not like bands. yes they give a great live feel but the songs just dont sound the same and i have an issue with that. i want my wedding song to SOUND like my wedding song. some songs bands perform amazingly and then others they just sound so bad. IMO...leave the song to the original artist and let it sound how it was supposed to sound

I can not agree more with this - and so many of my guests are so happy that we are getting a dj

Thanks! I mean we have heard the band and they are amazing.. that is the ONLY reason I would even consider a band! Every song they sang.. they sounded like the recording artist!

Re: DJ vs Band
What about a DJ with some live musical element. We hav ea DJ, a jazz trio for CH, and a saxophonist and percussionist for the reception

Re: DJ vs Band
If you would be OK with a DJ then go with a DJ and an MC....we loved ours!!!! We never thought about a band because like a PP said, the songs don't sound the same. Also, most bands have a limited repertoire of songs they can play-what would you do if they don't know how to play your chosen wedding song? Don't worry you will be fine with a DJ

Re: DJ vs Band
I'm all about the DJ. I want to hear the original songs, and we are having a VERY wide age range at our party and I feel that a DJ can cater better to a wider age group. That being said, if you are NOT looking for those things, then maybe a band is the way to go.

I completely disagree. Great bands will sound identical to the originals. People do not want to dance to music they do not know. So if it sounded different no one would like it.

Re: DJ vs Band
I would go with the DJ. Saving $4000 is SO MUCH money!! When you put it into real-life terms, and not wedding terms, just think of how much money that really is. You can always compromise and get a band member or two to play at your CH or reception, like a saxophone player or a band trio or something.

Re: DJ vs Band
I like the idea of a DJ with some added elements, like a saxophone player or guitar player. We saw a great band recently and they sounded amazing and the songs sounded like the real song, so now we're torn.

Re: DJ vs Band
i am 100% dj because a band is totally out of our budget!!! lol i do like the way bands sound, and I like their vibe...
I understand everyone's opinions abt the sound and music a band can play..but i think that if you got the right band (which will probably increase in cost) then u dont have anything to worry abt.
