DJ's

DJ's

For those of you who booked your DJ, did you hear then perform before booking? My mom says I should go see DJ's and how they work before booking. I told her it doesnt matter since they are playing pre-recorded music anyway. Then her argument was well you have to see how the DJ and the MC interract with the guests. I just think you can get a vibe how they would be with the guests by simply meeting them and talking to them. Am I wrong???

Re: DJ's

we booked without listening to them (but they showed us a video). but we did hear others that we met with.

I think either way could be okay. its prob best to listen to them if possible to see how they interact and do their thing and also to see what DJ and MC you like the best.

We still need to check out the guys we booked to see who we want as our DJ and MC

I am really interested in this as well. I do not want an overbearing DJ, and I don't want all of the bells and whistles either. No smoke, blow up guitars, sunglasses, and stop talking over the songs! I mean, I know you need someone to get the party going a little bit, but PLEASE don't talk during my first dance, or say 'how sweet' when I am dancing iwth my dad!

This is something that makes me so nervous, cause I know I will get annoyed by this the day of, but also don't want people just sitting twiddling their thumbs either!

We booked with Dynamic Entertainment and they had done a work function for me...thats where I saw them preform. I love the MC we had at the event and he will be our MC too!

I totally agree...I don't want a dj that is annoying and talks the whole time...I just want him to introduce us and that is about it. Can anyone recommend one that will not talk the whole time???

I have an appointment next week with a DJ. Do they show you a video?

I'm using Frank from FM Entertainment. His prices are very reasonable. You can go to a showcase and he will do a mock wedding with introductions, music, etc...so you can see how he works. FH and I really liked him! He's definately not in your face or over the top. Good luck with your planning!

Re: DJ's

We got the same story from our parents when it was time to book the DJ. I asked the ones we were looking at, but it just seemed like a really awkward thing for everyone involved. He had to let the couple who's wedding it was know that we would be there, and make sure it was ok with them. We ended up having them send us some DVDs of weddings they had. It wasn't the same, and honestly, that didn't help our decision very much (obviously they're not going to send you sucky DVDs!)

Go with your gut, and recommendations (at least LIW bride's recommendations)

The DJ we used has been around long enough that they no longer really do showcases.
