cut the designers tag out of the dress?? I went to a showcase where they did a little fashion show with BM dresses and wedding dresses and they kept saying 'we don't cut the tags out of the dresses like some other bridal shops..'

A few do, they cut the tags out so you cant go to another bridal salon and ask for that specific dress so you buy it from them. When you order the dress it comes with the designer tag in it-they dont cut it out.

BE SURE if you get a Maggie that you get your certificate with it!

WOW useful advice. do many designers 'certify' their dresses with certificates?

You have to check the designers website, it will tell you under the FAQ
I did not get mine b/c my bridal salon was a bunch of jerkoffs and when I asked about it they said that if we dont ask they throw them away

There is a part of me that believes my dress may NOT have been a Maggie-tho I know it was...still makes me wonder if that is why I had so many problems with my dress when it came in. Just make sure when it comes in that you ask for it-it comes with the dress

I didn't even think twice about asking for the Maggie certificate that came with my gown- I am 1000% sure it's really a Maggie and I think they might have thrown the certificate away when they started to work on my gown...

Oh well I can probably call the manufacturer anyhow and get a replacement if I wanted it?

Like I said though I am not worried about it not being a real Maggie gown.
The woman who was my bridal consutant at the bridal shop I went to was a old next door neighbor of my FH's so I trust her and the shop 500%.

Its sad though that some other stores jerk us brides around- honestly for what I am paying I better get a designer gown and get the right gown that I paid for.. I feel so sorry for those brides that jerked around like that.

Wow, I had no idea there were knockoff wedding gowns out there!!!!

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Carmela's Bridal on Jericho Tpke in Hunt. Sta. A bride posted on here a while back about how her sister ordered a dress from there - some big designer, I forget who - and when it came in, it was clearly NOT the same dress. All sorts of things were wrong about it, it was made poorly, etc. The owners freaked that she figured it out - they made the dress themselves and charged her full designer price. They started kissing up immediately - not sure if she just got her $$ back or if they 'ordered the dress again' - I don't think they actually said it wasn't the designer dress .... so do not go there!!!!

That. is. unbelievable.

Re: Do bridal places really.....

Alot of bridal salons practice cutting out the tag of dresses. I personally don't like to do business with stores like that. But, there are other stores that don't.

the bridal salon that I bought my dress from cut the tag off. When I asked them about it, they said it's a sample and the tag fell off because of all the handling. they put tag back on at my next visit but it was a different designer. should I be worried?

sounds like they are trying to pass off your dress as something its not, I would question why its now a different designer!

You know...it's hard! I want proof that what I'm paying for is what I'm getting...HOWEVER, with all of these websites (house of brides, netbride etc) these stores are going out of business because the sites are selling the dresses a lot cheaper. Lose lose situation!

I would ask them why its now a different designer and put them on the spot about it. Do you know the actual designer of the dress?

Was the showcase featuring The Wedding Center fashion show? The owner is an older guy...either Joe or John or something like that?

I didn't want to upset them otherwise they'll really screw with my order. They told me the the designer is as said, don't go by the tag. The designers also pulled the dress off their website, maybe because it's an older dress. I don't care who the designer is, I just want to make sure I get the dress that I tried on.

It sounds really bad-but alot of companies do this 'shpeel' b/c they have other things to hide. Woopy do you dont take the tag out...but do what is your cap on alterations, etc.
when buying your dress you really have to balance out the costs, you may think you are getting a deal with 20% off on your dress but little do you know the cap on your dress is 350 instead of 200...so did you really save? It stinks but alot of bridal stores make there money back and wind up charging all kinds of fees. I had issues with my dress from the get go. My first bustle almost cost me 260 The seamstress claimed I needs 26 points b/c the train was longer....um in the end it wound up being 160 or 180 not sure...but they always try to make their money up somehow

Re: Do bridal places really.....

Denise and Alan Fields addressed this in their book 'Bridal Bargains.' They said that it is legal for shops to rip the tags out of dresses so long as the manufacturer's tags are replaced with the shop's own inventory system tags. It definitely makes comparison shopping and selling the dress afterward harder, but what shop is going to care about making it easier for a consumer to buy from somewhere else or what's done with the dress afterward?

Most of the shops I went to (I'm OOT) did this, but did tell me who the manufacturer was when I asked. I had to go on the Internet to look up each dress and remember what they looked like to get the style name or number.

It's really still so sad that if you ask who the desinger is that they won't tell you unless you see the tag.

I wonder what they do when you come into the store asking to try on a particular gown by a particular desinger?

I know people who work for a company that sells fine gifts that they are not 'authorized' to sell. They throw the certificates of authenticity out b/c in order to register the product you have to say where you purchased it, and you can't do that if the shop isn't authorized.
It doesn't mean the products are fakes.

The same goes for the dresses. A lot of shops order from designers they are not authorized dealers for. Someone else orders the gown for them, keeps the certificate, and then sells the shop you ordered from the gown.
