to mail out my invites? The envelopes are big and square. Do I have to do that hand cancel thing(not even sure what it is). Or can I just put them in the regular mail box on the street?
Please help, I want to send them out ASAP, even though I realize tomorrow is a holiday....

Go to the post office, have the invite weighed and mail them from there.

Please, any advice from anyone? I don't want to just dump them in the mailbox tomorrow morning if they're not going to fit through that cancelling machine....

Thanks, Jenn - I did have one weighed. They're all stamped and ready to go, just didn't know if there would be a problem w/ it going through the machine...

Do not, I repeat Do Not - just dump the invites in a mailbox. You should definitely get them weighed - you don't want to take a chance of sending out invites and having the post office return them for insufficient postage (almost happened on our e-party invites). You would have to redo all the envelopes - not fun.
Good Luck!!!!
Edited to say - I'm a slow typer - glad you already got them weighed

Is the post office open tomorrow? I know it's a holiday but don't know if it's one of those 'federal' holidays.

Re: Do I have to go to the Post OFfice?..
as per 1010wins.com,
Post offices are closed. There is no regular mail delivery, except for Express Mail and special delivery; in New York City, the main weigh offices are open at the James A. Farley building at 33rd Street and Eighth Avenue from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and at the Morgan General Mail Facility at 341 Ninth Ave. from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Feel like taking a ride in to NYC?

I WOULD GO TO THE POST OFFICE TO BE SAFE. WHEN I WAS DOING MY ENGAGEMENT PARTY INVITATIONS I JUST GUESSED UNTIL I TOOK ONE DOWN AND THE DIFFERENCE IN POSTAGE WAS AMAZING. I WOULD JUST TO BE SAFE RATHER THAN SORRY.

When is your RSVP date? I don't think one day will ruin it, it's better than mailing them and ahving 1/3 of them returned to you?

Re:'Do'I'have'to'go'to'the'Post'OFfice?..
Starhead- We are getting married the same day! I went to the Post Office to weigh them first. I just mailed my invitations last Friday. My invites were big and square and they cost .83 to mail!!!! If you live near Hicksville that Post Office is opened 24 hours Monday-Friday. I don't think they are opened for Martin Luther King's birthday, but if you go Tuesday night, they hand cancel all wedding invitations. The people at the Post Office were really nice and most people got their invitations the next day.

Mine are big and square, took them to get weighed and the guy told me that it's 60 cents, no matter how much it weighed over a certain amount. I live in queens and work in nyc, unfortunately not near those two post offices that are going to be open. Guess I'll just take them tomorrow!! Thanks.

Yeah, I would make sure that you get them weighed, so they don't get returned to you. From there, you could just mail them from there.
