1) Do I need a guest book? If I do get one, where does it normally go?
2) What about toasting glasses?
3) What about a cake cutter???
Help I am so confused!

I think that these things all fall under the category of 'extras.' I don't think I am doing any of them.

You don't need any of them. I personally don't like guestbooks per say, but I wanted to do a framed pic of me and FH for guests to sign because I can display it later rather than just packing it away like you'd do with an actual book. We have toasting glasses and cake cutters because we received them as gifts, but if we hadn't we wouldn't have purchased them.

You definitely don't have to have any of those things. If you don't want to buy toasting flutes and a cake server, your reception hall will provide you with them to use the day of.
As for the guest book, it would be placed somewhere in the room where all guests can sign. I personally am not doing this.

Yep, I agree with the others... those are nice things to have, but not necessary. We got toasting flutes and got them engraved and will use them on special occasions in the future, but we're not gettign a cake server.
I didn't want to do just a plain guestbook, so we are making a polaroid guestbook... I think it will be fun to look at the pics of everyone, especially if they had a few drinks before hand

I did not have a guest book! I think it is an extra.

We're not having a guest book. We are using our gorgeous toasting flutes that my FMIL gave us when we got engaged, along with my cake & knife set.

I'm not buying any of these either. If I get them as gifts I'll use them otherwise I'll use what the RH has. Besides I always pass the guest book at other people's weddings so I figured i'd be a hypocrite to ask people to sign mine

I agree with other brides that those items are “extras”. There nice but you don’t have to do any of them. If you want you can do a frame with one of your 'engagement pictures' that your guest can sign. I don’t like the idea of people signing a book which will most likely never be looked at again. At least with the frame you can hang it up in your place. I think it’s a cool keepsake.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again . . . the only things you NEED at a wedding are:
1. The Bride 2. The Groom 3. An Officiant 4. Witness
Absolutely everything else is extra!!!!
YOUR DAY . . . . DO WHAT YOU WANT!!!!

Re: Do I need a Guest Book?? I'm so confused!!!
hello date twin (not year twin but still good)....i didnt do a guest book, i did the sign in board so that i could put in a pic later and frame it. i wanted something that i could actually look at and appreciate rather than put it in a drawer never to be seen again.
the cake cutter and toasting flutes are optional but i did them cause i wanted something to put in our china cabinet to look at forever. i had our names and date engraved into the cutter and i had our initials engraved into our flutes.
