Re: Do I need a TA??
I think theyre good if you dont know what you, if you dont feel comfortable booking yourself, and sometimes they can get you better deals. i would recommend you to do some research on your own, then take your best price to a TA and see if they can somehow get you something better. Cant hurt!

Re: Do I need a TA??
thats a preference. up to you. i honestly do my research and have a price of what it woudl cost if I booked it on my own, and then go to a TA and see what they can get for me. 99% of the time they are cheaper

ITA
TA are good if there is a problem you have someone to clear things up for you so that you dont have to stress it.
i know from experience - for my SIL bachelorett party one of the rooms had a bug and a hair on the pillow so the girls were freaking out that the place was dirty (it was a riu so how dirty could it have been) long story short we called our TA and he not only got us upgrades to their highest class hotel but we got ocean view rooms.

Re: Do I need a TA??
Usually i would book things myself but for our HM we wanted to go with a TA so we could have backup... for example.. last year our friends worked with a TA and when they got on their HM they did not like the hotel at all. Their TA was able to make arrangements for them and switch them to another hotel that they were much happier with....
You dont want to stress at all on your HM, so to have the Backup of a TA is IMO necessary...

Re: Do I need a TA??
I think you could organize the Keys by yourself and get good pricing. In reality, if you call different places, they should be able to give you better pricing. Just like vendor negotiations!
You might want to spend a few days in Key West then a few somewhere else in the Keys- Key West is fun but not too crazy. Just fun enough

Re: Do I need a TA??
I actually remembered why we stopped using TAs!
Many years ago, we used one for a trip to Florida. She had booked us a late flight to Ft. Myers, so we didn't land until about 7. Well, the hotel she booked us required notification of late check in (after 6 PM), and she did not do it. We got there, had no ability to get in touch with her, the hotel was now booked and the HOTEL had to call around and find us a hotel for the night. We ended up at a shady motel, as there was a huge soccer tournament in town that weekend and every place was booked.
I think since we are not doing an all-inclusive, and want to trek through Europe at our own pace, we will go it alone.

im using the infamous TA ... normally dont use TA's but, for our HM i wanted as much stress taken out of the planning, and were doing an all inclusive out of the country so it worked out, she def got us a better deal than had i done it my self :)

I think I'm going to use her too! I think infamous TA should be her new name.

You dont' need one but they can make things easier.. Sometimes they can get you a much better price/deal than you can on your own.

Re: Do I need a TA??
For the Keys; probably not. Just do a lot of research on where to stay and price how much it costs booking through the resort directly or through a booking website (like orbitz; travelocity etc).
I've booked a lot of trips w/out TA's. I find i sometimes get a getter deal that way!! Just go to tripadvisor.com and get read the reviews people post about the different resorts. There's even a forum board where you can find out what to do while there!
