Do you think I HAVE to have programs for our ceremony? I think it would be nice, but I also dont really know what to put in it other than who is in the bridal party and what is being sung and read...

I don't think they are necessary. Their nice to have if you can find the time to do them but you definitely don't need them.

Re: Do I need programs?
you dont have to have them- but if you are inviting people who are not the same faith as you its nice so they understand the customs in the ceremony- they are also a great place to thank those that helped you with the wedding & even remember those deceased members of the family that can not be with you. I like to keep them as a remembrance of the wedding- Im a little corny & I have them from every wedding I have ever gone to.

I didn't make programs because I had the same thought as you. It's not a must...just a personal preference.
If you have a long ceremony and you want your guest to be able to follow along then you do them.
My friends had a Greek ceremony and many of the guest weren't familiar with the customs so in that case it made a lot of sense to have programs.
Go with your gut, if you think it would be a nice touch and your guests would appreciate it (and if you have the time!) go for it. But no one would yell at you if you skipped it!

You don't have to do programs. I haven't decided if we will or not. If we do, they will be one sheet on thick cardstock.

That's all we had in it (and a thank you to our friends and families...)
You don't have to have them though!

I think programs are special because it acknolwedges those close to you and lets everyone know that your thankful for them coming to celebrate your special day. The ceremony is the start of the day as well.

Re: Do I need programs?
we are doing our own programs but we also have some special family ceremonial stuff that needs to be explained. We are using a family sword to cut the cake and we are also drinking a sip of special brandy out of a special cup. Every newly married couple does this in my FH's family. So we want everyone to understand the significance.

not a necessity but a nice touch i liked it because it made our mass easy to follow for those who are not catholic (or not in church much) plus it helped our rehearsal flow smoothly

Re: Do I need programs?
My advise is DON'T do it. I thought I really wanted to do it as well. I was very detail orientated and my wedding planner talked me out of it. She was right - 'at the end of the day' it is more stress because of more work and most of the guests don't really care one way or the other. Most of the programs just get discarded!
I have seen this happen time and time again.

I think I will do something like this too. I am making my own menu cards, one sheet matted to another contrasting color - so I may make programs that match.
I am SOOOOO obsessed with matchy-matchy things. I have GOT to stop or I will be doing this on October 24 ...

Not necessary but I think it's nice to honor the people that are part of your day. It's nice to tell everyone who's in the bridal party and such. Sometimes it gives your guests something to do with themselves before the ceremony i know i always sit and read it!

Re: Do I need programs?
i'm doing them only b/c my church has its own choir, so as we exchange vows, we have two soloists (male & female) singing and the hymns sound so pretty. I'm having those included in the programs along with the bridal party.

Re: Do I need programs?
i don't think that they are totally necessary but i did make my own. the front i did our monogram in the background and then our names, location and date at the bottom the first page was a shakespere quote the second listed the order of events the third listed the wedding party the last page was a thank you to our family, friends and parents
i just made small 6x6 booklets and fastened them with a ribbon...it only took about two hours to make them

Re: Do I need programs?
I took the time to make them and print them and hardly anyone took one. I did make a point to thank everyone who helped out so my mom made sure they got a copy. They are not a necessity and if I were to do it again, I would not have done them.
