You don't haver to a few brides on the site have not. One bride is wearing a lovely jeweled flower pin in her hair.

I think if you want a more traditional look you should wear one. But I'm not wearing one. My dress is open on the back and I want to show the beautiful dress (sorry no picture). Although I have to admit it is being very hard to convince my mother that a veil is not absolutely necessary!!! Another choice is to get a silk or other material one, it may match a little more than the tulle one, if that's your worry.

i went back and forth on this one...

ultimately i decided to wear it for the ceremony and then took it off for the reception!

You don't have to wear anything you don't want to - it's YOUR wedding! You may want to consider just wearing one for the ceremony and then taking it off for the reception after you get a few pics in it. I personally think the veil is the most bride-y thing so of course I wore one...plus it's the only time you'll ever get to wear one. But that doesn't matter if you don't want to wear one. No one will mistake you as anything other than the bride in a beautiful wedding gown and a tiara or whatever you decide to put in your hair (flowers, hair pins, etc).

There is a meaning behind it - something about warding off evil spirits - or disguising yourself from them under the veil...I can't quite remember, but it is interesting.

I was SO opposed to it at first. I tried a few on that were very poofy at the insistance of the woman who helped me find my dress. It was SO not me, I hated the look.

But then, I found this mantilla veil that lays flat on my head and matches my 'old world Italian' obsession very well. It is lovely, very sheer and bordered with antique lace. I LOVE it. It will come off for the reception though and I will put a flower in...

It's totally up to you - but keep in mind that there are different types of veils you may want to experiement with before nixing the idea.

i was set on wearing one for the whole day but after seeing the back of my dress again i've decided on wearing it for the ceremony and then taking it off..you do what you want to do and traditional style is a choice now not a necessity..

NO. You can wear a flower or jewled pins in your hair instead.

Re: do i need to wear a veil??

This is funny--I posted this same question last week since everyone was telling me I had to have a veil! The consensus was that most brides were doing the veil, but I should do what I want.

I'm still not sure--I may just go with a pretty jeweled hairband. For what it's worth, I think you should do what you want.
