Do I really have to include ALL of these directions on my directions card??
Okay, it's time to print the directions out for the invites.
My sister took a look at the document I typed up and thought I went way overboard....I included:
Directions to the reception from points east & west (all from the CLM site- and it's ALOT of directions from lots of different points- bridges, etc) Directions to the church Directions to the hotel from the airports Directions to the church from hotel Directions from hotel to church Directions from hotel to reception.
Is this just CRAZY and unnecessary? I guess I'm just concerned about my OOTers. But...in this day and age of GPS systems and Mapquest, can't people figure it out themselves?
So...if you were to condense this long-a s s list, what would you keep and what would you leave out?

i only included directions to the church and RH from major highways on my direction cards. then i included directions from the church to the RH and the hotel on my church program.

I would do the directions from hotel to church and then directions from the church to reception.

Well, that is alot of directions!!!!!
What we did, was just put ALL of the directions on our website, so they can print them all out. We put our website on the bottom of our main insert. We used Mapquest. We also put the addresses for everything there too. We just felt it was too much information in the inviation....and it took away from the actual invitation itself.

I hear ya on the OOT concern so here is what I did:
Invitations included just the directions to church and directions to Reception hall (same card front and back)
Then for OOT's I added all your other directions in their welcome box. I figure they will check into the hotel first and can get them from there. Everyone will print directions to their hotel (plus I sent them with the STD)

I don't think you have to do back and forth from the church to hotel. If you use a main road from the hotel to church or reception, I don't hink you need to include to and from they can just use the reception direction card. Does this make senseto anyone but me?!?!? HTH

Some thoughts:
1) Go through all the directions that CLM provides, maybe you don't need from ALL the locations. For example, if you don't have anyone coming from New Jersey you can take those out completely ...
2) Make a 2 sided card -- front with directions to the Church, back with directions from the Church to CLM, and from some other main locations to CLM
3) Maybe make a separate card 2 sided card for the hotel stuff, on the front include the hotel block info. On the back put the hotel related directions ... directions to the hotel, and directions from the hotel to the church & CLM.

You should only put 1 card and it says-
For direction please use Google Map, MSN Map or Yahoo Map

couldnt agree more, we even put or wedding website on the STD so they can be checking and planning accordingly and dont have to wait for our invites (we have alot of OOTers)

Hmmmm we do have a link to directions on our website so....maybe we should mention the website again on the directions card!!! You would think people could take care of themselves ya know? I almost never use the directions provided in an invite anyway....I guess I was just worried for the OOTers.

It gets to the point of being ridiculous. We have alot of OOT people. They will be flying in prob from JFK. We are providing the directions that the hotel is providing (it is pretty exhaustive) and then directions to the RH. We are providing a shuttle ot the RH so anyone staying in the hotel will have transportation.
Most people will use either gps or mapquest, etc. only people you have to worry about are the older people that dont' have computers, etc.
