you don't have to. BUT if you see one you like you can put it on the table in front/beside the cake. doesn't actually have to be on top. a lot of people do this now because some toppers (ie: lenox, lladro, etc) are too heavy to put on.

I didn't. Some of the are SO heavy you can't put them on top of the cake, SO the are sitting on the side. ![]()
