Do I really need a card box??
I have never heard or seen a card box at a wedding before joining this site. Is it necessary to have a card box? What do you do with it? You leave it on a table and people know that is where to put the cards? I'm not sure that many of my guests would know what it is.Sorry for the rant, but i'm just very confused by this...
Please help explain this to me!

Re: Do I really need a card box??
I think everyone does. You leave it on a table could be during cocktail or reception. It gives a place to put cards people give you at the wedding, so you aren't walking arpund with a bunch of cards. I've never been to a wedding without something to place cards in.

Re: Do I really need a card box??
I don't know if you necessarily need one, nor do you need to spend a lot of money on one. Most weddings I have been to have just had a small box (like a shoe box) sort of decorated and placed on the gift table so that cards wouldn't get misplaced among the rest of the gifts :)It just makes it easier for you to keep track of your small gifts. The girls on here just really like crafts and things :)

Re: Do I really need a card box??
yep, ive seen them either at the entrance to the reception room on a table or on the side of the sweethearts table. i've also seen the bride walk around with something that looks like a pillowcase and put the envelopes in there. I prefer the card box myself which my mom bought from michaels.I dont think you NEED one, but what would you do with a bunch of envelopes in hand for the rest of the night?

You don't HAVE to have one, but it makes it easier for guests to drop off gifts

This!! I have seen brides in the past carry a satchel to put the cards in but you would have to have someone watch it afterwards.

Hi! I see you are a Land's End bride as well! Congrats on picking a beautiful location. :) There are a few other LE brides over on the 2012 board, but there aren't that many of us. Please let us know if you have any LE specific questions!!

I saw this years ago. i think it's kind of tacky and its much better to have a card box so guests dont feel uncomfortable and can just put the card in the box whenever....

I have always seen a cardbox at a wedding. It makes it easy for the guests to give it to you whenever and also you don't have to collect it.

Why would you NOT have a card box or something to hold your envelopes/gifts in?I've always seen them at weddings, maybe not as extravagant as some seen on LIW, but it's out of convenience to you to have one.

My family is of the old-school Italian variety, and my sisters carried little satin bags for their cards but that's so annoying because then the guest has to hunt you down and you might be busy for awhile with pics, etc. so they're left holding onto some expensive cards. One of my cousins just put her card box by the guest book table, pretty simple and was easy to see where everyone came in.

I totally agree! My mom tried to push this idea on me and I ended up buying the card box so I won that battle LOL She is concerned that someone might steal from it. Oh mom LOL

My FH also wanted me to go and get a 'busta bag' - (Italian brides frequently carry these satin purses throughout the wedding party). He told me all my uncles will be looking for you to be carrying it. Told him I'll point them in the direction of the card box then. LOL they are too funny sometimes.

Re: Do I really need a card box??
I had a 'busta' bag when I got married 30 years ago! I still have it and offered it to my daughter, but she declined...ROFL!!!We used to sit at the dais and people would make a line to give you their envelope and you would give them the favor. It would take about an hour!!!
Card boxes are so much better now.

our RH told us a story of a mother of the groom stealing purses out of the bridal suite. they had cameras, so it wasnt a big deal but ANYTHING can happen!

Re: Do I really need a card box??
I think my venue provides a birdcage but I'll have to double check.I don't want to spend money on something like that if I don't have to but you need to have a place to secure your cards!!!!
After looking at them for over a year, I'm not a big fan of the cake boxes.
I saw a cute pinata for cards but it doesnt fit my wedding at all.
Maybe a treasure chest opened with a slot inside, that'd be cool!
I really like the swivel boxed picture frames with slot on top for cards though. I think those are one of the nicest if you have nice pictures for it and you can put Thank You for your Card on one side.
You can put a sign next to your card box in a frame so the guests know where to put their gift cards.
