How important are these things?
1. Rice/birdseed/petals or bubbles?
2. Toasting flutes
3. Card box
4. Cake Topper
5. Cake cutter
6. Unity candle
7. Programs
Which one do I really need to buy? For example, I'm pretty sure the RH owns a cake cutter so that's just an accessory. Is it wierd not to have Church programs or not to have anything for the guests to throw?
I think the most important thing you need to have is the cardbox...where will your guests put their gifts otherwise? You also want the cards to be safe so a cardbox is your safest bet too....no one can open it lol. As far as everything else...you can skip it if you want, they are not necessary, just nice to have if you want them. Programs are nice if you get married in a church especially because your guests can literally follow right along with the program :)

Re: Do I really need these things?
Personally, I don't think you need any of the above. The RH will provide the cake cutter and flutes, which in hindsight, I shouldn't have purchased. I didn't make programs and my bubbles were nice but unnecessary. I had candles for decoration but that was all. A cardbox is sometimes helpful, if not I'd at least have a bag.

You don't really need any of them -
if you don't do a card box, you will need some sort of bag for the envelopes, so it's a matter of whether you'd rather walk around and collect or have the box - either way will cost you $$. Some girls on here made incredible card boxes as a diy.
Programs are a nice touch for people to follow along - one per couple and printing them yourself will limit cost
I got toasting flutes for engagement and registered for the cake cutter - your RH will have them but you might end up getting them as gifts at some point as well.
I'm not doing petals/bubbles/etc, nor a cake topper (florist is providing flowers), nor the unity candle.

It's really a personal decision. If you are trying to cut cost I think you can do without any of them. IF you have the money they are nice things to have.

Re: Do I really need these things?
1. Rice/birdseed/petals or bubbles? I think you need something, the petals are inexpensive and look so cute in pics... look at attached
2. Toasting flutes- I had them but we got them as a gift and although they were beautiful, you can definitely get away without having them and use the ones your RH gives you
3. Card box- I was never a fan of the card box so i would say no
4. Cake Topper- Totally up to you- if can find a really cute one you love then go for it! but don't forget some cake toppers can take away from your beautiful cake :)
5. Cake cutter- i say totally not necessary, i promise no one will notice whether or not you use your own or the one your RH gives you
6. Unity candle- Check with your church/ceremony site. Our church did not have that included
7. Programs- I think programs are a great idea. It's nice to acknowlege everyone in your bridal party for being with you on your big day. It's also a great way to say thank you to your family and officiant
Which one do I really need to buy? For example, I'm pretty sure the RH owns a cake cutter so that's just an accessory. Is it wierd not to have Church programs or not to have anything for the guests to throw?
its reallly a personal decision. im psycho and will have all ahhh lol

Very good question.
I am not doing ANYTHING on the list except the toasting flutes. Me and FH and want something special for years to come.
I never understood the cake cutter. I mean no offense....but why do people need to bring a cake cutter? I just never got that one.
I am not using a card box. The bridal butler wil take the cards and put them in the safe for us.

you don't need any of those things.
I'm going to buy the champagne toasting glasses because then we can pull them out on special occasions.
I would never use any of the other things again.
Maybe if I have some extra spending money I'll get the card box but it's not necessary either.

Re: Do I really need these things?
This may sound funny but I've only seen a card box at one wedding--most of the time its just given to the groom, father, FIL, etc. That's what we plan to do.
I'd say the only thing on the list I'm doing is programs as well.

Re: Do I really need these things?
You really don't need any of those except maybe the card box just so you have a designated place for your cards. I got mine from Michaels for like $20 with a coupon.
I bought my flutes, and cake cutter at Macy's on sale for like $20. I want to get them engraved for future memories.
I got 2 boxes of bubbles from Michaels for $7ea- I could have gotten tem for less if I had uses a coupon but it was a last minute desicision to use them and I am glad I did, the guest and the kids enjoyed them. Remember most places don't allow birdseed or petals so keep that in mind.
Programs I wouldn't go crazy for but it is nice to let your guests know who is in the BP and what the sequence of events are for the ceremony. I made my own.
I registered for my cake topper and got it at my bridal shower so that is another option and it didn't take away from cake at all. You can also borrow one if u know someone who has one.
I did not do a unity candle nor did I feel it was necessary.
Good luck and don't sweat the small stuff!

I'm only doing the card box , cake topper and possibly toasting flutes only bc FH wants them. A lot of churchs don't even allow anything to be thrown. I'm not handing anything out. And def no programs. I never even heard of these being done until recently.

Re: Do I really need these things?
You only need what YOU say you need!
We did not have:
-Special cake cutter set (just used the rh ones) -Toasting flutes we forgot at home! Oh well! -Unity candle, didn't do -Cake Topper (our florist did orchids draped over the cake)
We DID do the things that I really wanted. Awesome Card Box, Programs, and petal cones.

Aww, what a pretty pic!
Thanks for all your help. I think we'll definitely do the card box and possibly the petals as of now.

Instead of bridal attendant we will literally have a bridal butler as our/my attendant.
But this is a butler to cater to me/groom all day for any reason for anything. I think it is in the tradition of having a private butler for the day, but one who is specifically there and trained for Bridal.
The Butlers they have on staff have been doing this for 15+ years, so we will be in good hands.
I will let you all know after the wedding what my experience is with the Butler.

We did petals -we had real petals, but I have seen nice silk ones in the dollar store...just something to think about
2. Toasting flutes
We also had the toasting flutes...the ones I really wanted were like $400 & there was no way I could afford that -but we still got a very nice pair to have & use again on our anniversaries for like $100.
3. Card box
We didnt have this. My Aunt/Godmother Hand-sewed/made a beatiful satin & lace Bridal Booty Bag - my mom pretty much kept it with her the whole night
4. Cake Topper
We got ours on Ebay - & LOVE IT
5. Cake cutter
Also got on ebay for like 75% less than retail & plan to use them on every holiday, spec occasion, anniversary
6. Unity candle
We didnt have this - but they dont have this as part of the Russian Orthodox wedding ceremony
7. Programs
I refused to pay a lot of money for these esp when for the exception of mine & DH's parents & maybe my Aunt/Godmother - no one else would be keeping their copy & just chucking it in the garbage. We used regular white photocopy paper, typed up program outline ourselves & then brought to photocopy place to make 100 copies....hell of a lot cheaper than if we had someone design & print out for us.
Which one do I really need to buy? For example, I'm pretty sure the RH owns a cake cutter so that's just an accessory. Is it wierd not to have Church programs or not to have anything for the guests to throw?
See embedded answers above. Everything w/ exception of something - whether it be a card box or booty bag of some type is TOTALLY optional & personal choice. You definitely dont want your wedding cards w/cash, checks, gc's, etc walking away w/ no recourse on getting them back. But you can also find some great deals at Tanger outlets, Ebay or DIY sites like Etsy...just some food for thought...

Re: Do I really need these things?
To be honest, I don't think you need any of those things. I think the program is necessary only if you have a lot of people of a different faith who will need it to follow along.
