As I read I am cracking up! I agree with pretty much all of you...although 'Wind Beneath My Wings' might be my father-daughter dance.
NO lines dances at all. I'm sorry, they just seem cheesy for a wedding. I also want to keep all the 70's Dance Fever/Disco songs to the min. My question is why would anyone want to hear 'I will survive' at a WEDDING??? Isn't that a break up song??? My mom made me promise no Frank Sinatra

I guess I was pretty specific, No gloria estefan, mariah carey, celine dion, cher, and No MONY MONY, ughh...I hate that song! Oh, yeah no group dances either, especially anything that requires a CONGA LINE!

I HATE Mony Mony too!

That is great!!!

My do not play list:
GROUP or LINE DANCES!!!
I will survive
It's raining man
any other 'she-women' or breakup songs
any songs with bad words in it (yes, there are some out there...)

I saw someone out on there list the Thong Song. Is that really an issue? I would be so appalled if someone played that at a wedding I guess that will have to go on my list too!!

Really? I am going to request some.
I have also heard several people in the past request no Beatles, but I like them.

I have to pick which genres I prefer.
40's /Big band
50's Rock & Roll ( not sure what that includes)
60's ( again not sure)
70's /Disco
current music/Top 40 ( could be dangerous)
Motown

That's harder than I though, b/c I don't particularly love one genre over another. some of each is good & some is awful.
I think I am leaving out 70's Disco though.

I think it's a personal taste thing,

The list of 'most often played wedding songs' that our DJ gave us, was, save for 2 songs, our 'DO NOT PLAY' list. He laughed but we don't like conventional music..or whatever people concidder popular these days.
we were like:
NO MARAYA CAREY WHATSOEVER
NO WITENY HUSTON
NO CHEESEY DANCES
NO BOY BAND CRAP

etc...

but hey, to each his own

FH said NO MONY MONY, and if the DJ plays it he will get so upset.. lol.. HE HATES IT!! i don't really care about anything else, We have quite the 'play list' so I don't think the dj will have any time for other songs

Wow! I have a few of these on my do not play, but honestly while a lot of them are not my favorite songs, we're still playing some of them, because I know they get my friends and family moving and I want the dancefloor packed.

Guess this is why you need to be specific with the DJ......

Same here. While it may seem cheesy to have line dances, I just want everybody to have a good time

yes we did something like this:

no rock musc
no punk music
no latin songs with words (instrumental ok)
no chicken dance
no country line dance
no country music
no tv songs
nothing before motown

basically we wrote down what we did not like

Re: DO not play list

Sorry to mom - FutureMrs.H, but Sinatra stays... have no idea what the cranky old lady's issue is with that song (by the way her mom is my mom to those who don't know)... I like some sinatra and hello... I marrying an Italian!

I'd prefer no line dancing (FH is a big kid and wants the chicken thing - I may let him have 1 - but only one - I won't dance to it), but since he's Italian and I'm of Jewish decent... I want Hava Negila and the Italian dance song that's played at weddings where everyone dances in a circle.

None of the following:

Mony, Mony (I hate that too)
Any break up songs (FH's brother's wedding in June had I will survive and Whitney Houston's 'It's alright, its okay, I'm gonna make it anyway - close the door behind you leave your key... - I was like 'WHAT????')
No Macarena
No 'I do, I do, I do'
No 'The bride cuts the cake...' (we'll have Dave Matthews Crash or Ants Marching during the cake cutting).
As few 'old' songs as possible. No twist and shout either (hate that one!)
