Do NOT wait to make your hotel block/reservations

So If I can impart one piece of advice to anyone on this board who is planning...PLEASE reserve a hotel and a block of rooms now.

I picked my hotel (Garden city Hotel) in Feb for an October 24th wedding.

As of today they are sold out for that Saturday night. My block of 15 are already taken and they gave me another 10 rooms. They keep rooms set aside for just this purpose. But if my block is taken and I have more people who need a room its going to be a problem.

Thank G-D I did it 8 months in advance.

Take note October brides! All the Jewish Holidays are between Sept 15th (ish) and October 15th (ish). The 17th and 24th are the first 2 Saturdays Jews can get married so there will be a LOT of Jewish weddings those days. So hotels willl be very booked.

Do it today ladies!!

I T A!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My cousin got married 2 years ago and told us to get a move on hotels way in advance. They tried blocking rooms 6 months before their wedding and had such a hard time with hotels completely booked. I booked mine and am so glad I dont have to worry about it. One less headache you have to worry about

yup - I did it at exactly the one year mark! We have so many OOT guests, it was super-important to us that we got a move on this.

Def- I blocked mine as soon as we booked out date, which was like 1.5 years in advance But they were all booked up by a year ahead, especially because there's so few hotels way out east!

WOW! Thank goodness that I blocked mine a year in advanced...
And you are right, I had friends call and they don't have available rooms outside of my block.

i did mine a year out too and they even called me a few months ago saying that i should politely remind my guests that plan on staying to book their rooms because there are 2 other weddings there that weekend, its a holiday weekend and the rooms were booking fast

Yeah. I went online today just to look. And if you are just an outside person, you cant reserve a room online anymore for the hotel.

I freaked out because my STD went out last wednesday. But thank goodness I called today to check.

You would THINK they would call me and say 'by the way, your block for saturday is full...'

East Wind was completely booked in January- I freaked out! I managed to get 2 rooms but as of right now FH's parents aren't staying there and his Mom was really upset. So yes- block hotels WAY in advance!

It was my own fault!

I am still amazed at how quick these hotels book up!

I knew they would be full (my hotel) but never THOUGHT they would be on the verge of being sold out 6 months in advance.

Wow I feel really lucky that we picked a summer date when the hotel is only about half full so it shouldn't be a problem for us. Right now I have 6 rooms of my 15 booked. I have to book ours (we're upgrading to a suite, though) and FH wants to book 3 for his parents, sis' fam, and grandparents. I should tell him to do it today too. They said if we get close to our 15, we can have more added to our group rate as long as there's still room at the hotel.

Thanks for the tip for others! Hopefully people don't have as many OOTers as we do!! (1/2 our guests are coming from OOT)

I blocked them back in February after I visited the hotels. Thanks for the advice! (We only got engaged in January and picked a date shortly after so I couldn't block them any earlier.)

I called them at the hotel yesterday and there's plenty of room left. July is nothing like October as far as that goes! But I'll tell FH to get booking, just in case. He's very lazy about these sorts of things. Doesn't see what the rush is, ever.

It can't hurt. I email with one of the women at the Melville Marriott and she is extremely fast at replying.

I think I'm going to go home tonight and book the rooms for us and for FH's family. Mostly because I know it'll make Gail very happy.
