I had a meeting with a GREAT baker and I'd love for him to make our wedding cake. He's a bit pricey though and I'm concerned that, at the end of the night, people might not be into eating the cake.
Soooo... my question is whether it's worth it to get his well-known guy to make our cake (it was the BEST we've had) or if we should just save the $$$ since people won't eat it anyway? Thanks!!

Re: Do people really eat the cake? POLL
Everyone has commented on how good our cake was. I think it is the last thing that people get to eat and it is remembered. I always eat the cake when I go to weddings, even if I am stuffed I think it is worth the money to go with a good baker!!

I think it depends on whether you will offer other desserts. We are ordering TONS of other sweets from our caterer but we are taking their basic cake.

If you can afford it I would definately go for the cake you liked the best-in my experience people do eat the cake and remember if it was good or not!

My brother's cake was delicious. For his first wedding anniversary, they went back to the baker and had a section of the same cake made. Then we had a luau party (they went to Hawaii on their honeymoon) and had the cake for dessert. Then they shipped off to Vegas and got remarried at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel by ELVIS himself. No joke.

The guests ate both kinds of cake that we had and from what I hear people were actually trying to get more than one slice to take with them...so yes ..and no..becasue I have been to wedding where people didnt eat the cake or really go to the vienesse table.

I think the cake is pretty important. I can't remember anyone turning down the cake at the weddings I have been to.

I attended a wedding in the Bahamas and did not get to taste the cake. I remember that distinctly although I cannot tell you about any of the food or music.
I did get a slice of cake (two in fact) the next day at the out of town guest brunch though. It was yummy!!!!! I personally look forward to wedding cake.

I'm planning on cutting the cake between salad and dinner. Then having the hall serve tha cake right after dinner. I think when there is a significant amount of lag time and everyone is up dancing some people may not want to leave the floor or know the cake is being served. I'm doing it this way to ensure more people eat the cake.
I think it depends upon the crowd. Remember we are all brides so of course we are going to eat the cake but I have some relatives who told me they often don't.
If it makes you happy and it's one of the areas you've decided to splurge then knock yourself out... Who am I to say I bought Waterford crystal toasting flutes last night

Re: Do people really eat the cake? POLL
Thanks for all your responses!! It sounds like if the cake is good, people might ask for seconds, then? We aren't doing a Viennese hour but our hall does offer a dessert in addition to the wedding cake.
We were going to get a cake that would feed 110 (we're inviting 125, not sure how many won't come). The only other option is a cake that feeds 150, but it's significantly more $$. Should we go for the 110 or 150? Thanks again!

Re: Do people really eat the cake? POLL
Its a yes and no type of thing. People will eat the cake and enjoy it but is it worth breaking the bank, I really don't think so. If you can put it towards something that they/ you will also enjoy, I would say serve them a delicious cake but it doesn't have to be Brand Name or anything Thats just my opinion (I wanted an ice cream buffet but my FH QUICKLY vetoed that one)

I dont usually eat the cake ...because I am usually dancing and don't go back to the table til I am ready to leave. but I am also not a big sweets fan....
