Everytime I hear someone talk about how they have to go to a wedding they sound like they don't really want to go or that it is a pain in the butt that they have to go - whats the deal with that??
I don't people moaning and groaning that they have to go to my wedding

I love weddings, and wish I had more to go to. I went to a wedding last year on new years eve and the only people me and FH new were the bride and groom (barely). I had a great time, you give me food, drinking and dancing and I am happy. P.S. I love getting dressed up!!!

you hit the nail on the head! DH's cousin just got married and that was complete misery for us.
But, he has another cousin who got married. We adore her! We took a week off of work, spent approx $2,000 to get there and for accomodations. And, we very happily gave her $300 as her wedding gift. Great girl!

I always have a good time at a wedding because I love to eat, drink and dance (who doesn't!) But I have also been guilty of complaining. Our best friends got married in Jamaica last year and we had to spend $3000 to go. We had a great time, but it didn't change the fact that that was a lot of money, not to mention time off of work. Then they decided to have a reception in NY where we gave a gift as well. At the time, the whole things was a real financial strain for us, but DH was in the BP and the groom is one of his best friends. We also have 2 weddings next year on holiday weekends. That doesn't thrill me, but again they are our close friends, so what can you do.

As long as i know enough people and im invited with my fiancee i love weddings (would never want to go to one alone where i only knew the bride or groom! how awkward!) Weddings just make me 'happy'...so its always a nice night for me and my fiancee hehe

I don't mind weddings, it is the gift giving that gives me a headache, it also helps if it is a saturday night wedding, I have to admit I kind of kringe if wedding is on a different day. It also helps if you know a ton of people at the party

For me, it depends on whose wedding it is, how many people I know that are going to there and how far away it is.
I havent enjoyed many weddings in my lifetime - I actually feel bad for some people that are coming to mine!

i love weddings, and now that i'm planning one, i appreciate all the small things that that couple does to make theirs special... it's funny how each wedding i've been to-it's completely different from the last.

oh..I b*tch and moan ALL the time when i have to go to a wedding..I have to buya dress, spend so much $$$, travel, etc...but once I get there I have a great time and I'm glad I didn't miss it. It's especially rewarding when the couple seems so happy

I never thought about that but you are so right. I have heard so many people complain about going to weddings. Not me I love going to weddings and seeing people in love. Also love the endless food and dancing.

I think it's also different for guests based on where they are in life. Guests who are too young will be bored. Guests who are thinking about marriage will be looking and interested in everything. Brides-to-be will be taking notes. Recently married couples will probably be sad that their own wedding is over/ and thinking, 'Gee, I wonder if Aunt Alma called up THIS bride and groom to harass them about the seating chart, like she did to us.'
I think that older people are more concerned about driving long distances/driving in the dark and may complain about any of those things.

I felt the same way, because I didn't rally like going myself.
People seemed to have fun - a lot of dancing & eating, so I can't stress about it now. I think FH's adolescant cousins were bored, but what can you do.
I think its the distant ones, like your husband's boss's daughter's wedding, that are sometimes a drag.

I used to LOVE weddings, but the last few weddings I've been to (these were out of state weddings) were horrible...and I hate to say that because they were good friends, but they even felt it was bad...the DJ's CDs all skipped and were scratched, and the food was really bad.
But normally, I love weddings.

We have 7.. yes SEVEN weddings to go to in the next 2 years after our wedding. I will be very broke and very sad!
