I think it should be legalized... no matter what people say, its the least deadly drug... that commercial where the guy is in the car accident because of smoking pot is ridiculous. It should be treated as alcohol. Don't drive while doing it!! thats just plain common sense, it doesn't make pot a bad thing!! My opinion anyway!

Yes. It would cure the economy problem, if nothing else!! It would definitely replace tobacco as the biggest cash crop.

i don't know if i would legalize it, BUT i do feel that jail time is way too serious of a result in reference to the offense. i feel that instead of locking someone up for it that police in NY at least (incl. DH) should ticket those people instead and that would be a GREAT way to get NY back up and running. that'll fix the BUDGET! too many prisoners filling cells with these minor crimes. let the real criminals serve their entire sentence instead of being pushed out bc of an overcrowded cell.

I am just not a person who thinks that smoking pot is necessary. Sorry but it is a harmful drug. And yes, I also think that cigarettes should be illegal. Why should we all pay for addiction illnesses?
Should kids be able to smoke pot without any restrictions? sorry, just not something i agree with.

I don't think it should be legalized, and I do think it is no good. I think it's bad for your health (lungs) and this country isn't going to legalize another substance that's going to make health insurance companies have to pay up more than they already have to. It's sad but it's big business. Yes, alcohol- when abused- is no good for you too- but there are TONS of drugs out there that are legal products that people abuse (i.e. paint thinner, etc)... Legalize pot- I don't know.. is it going to do anything for our society? I would need to see data from past years to see how much $ we are wasting locking up habitual marijuana users... I can't imagine the % is so high...
In the end- really legalization or not has no effect on me.. if it is legalized will I tell my kids, 'hey, you are 21 now you can go smoke pot?'... um- no.

I think cigarettes are 100x worse than pot smoking. The $$ spent on 'busting' pot selling would be in the hundreds of millions. Let that go to more cops, or better teachers or just lower the tax % (which is f&*king ridiculous!)
Making drugs illegal clearly DOES NOT stop them from being distributed. The morality of smoking should not confused with the legality issue.

I think cops try to bust pot selling b/c 9 times out of 10 a pot dealer sells other substances. So I'm sure the theory is you bust one to get to the dealer which probably distributes heroin, coke, etc...
You are right- Cigarettes are bad- but just because 2 dangerous substances are legal (cigarettes and alcohol) does that mean we should add a third potentially dangerous substance to the mix? Sorry- that logic doesn't make sense to me..
I don't think as a society we need it to be legal... what good does it do people in Amster****? Nothing but tourism.. and I think NYC does quite fine without the weed dens.

I have read that there is a significantly lower number of pot smokers in Amsterdam than in the US. I think that says something in itself. Not saying that it is right, but it does make a statement about the US... the youth more importantly. I kinda compare it to the fact that when I was younger - LOVED to use my fake id and see how many times I could get into a club and drink. As soon as I hit 21, the thrill was kinda over. Probably the wrong analogy to use but when the challenge is taken away, it seems less appealing.

Yes, I think it should be legalized for many of the same reasons as already mentioned. I think, personally, that alcohol is MUCH more destructive and harmful than pot.

I agree with tracyg. i dont smoke cigs and when people light up around me (or my daughter) I get furious. I want to breathe clean air not smokey lung cancer crap.
As for leagalizing marijuana I think it should be. I also think it should have the restrictions on it as alcohol does. I feel the government is too into controling our lives... leave us to decide what is best for us.

dont know about the legalization...but the point about alcohol is a strong one that i agree with. it is so deadly in so many ways, i have no idea why it is still legal.
