Re: Do U Tell
I'm not offering the information... but my parents are paying the entire thing and if people ask, we would probably tell them. We still have no idea yet how much the wedding is going to total out at since we don't have anything booked besides the RH and church. So far there really is no budget - we are just trying to be somewhat reasonable with most the vendors we will look at (AKA $12K for a photographer is unnecessary). But my top priorities are the music (band + CH music) and flowers.

My parents will know because they are the one's funding the wedding...other than that, I really don't feel like telling anyone.
I told one person what we were in the ballpark of and she replied with 'OMG that's SOOOOO much my wedding only cost $1200 WITH rings!'
I was thinking to myself 'Yeah but I want a NICE wedding'
haha i dont even see how 1200 is possible...is she older??

Re: Do U Tell
My parent know the catering hall / ceremony cost b/c they came with us to pick it and the signed the contract (FH and I were living out of state at the time).
My nosy aunt (who works for a catering hall on long island where I will not be getting married at) asked us and my parents what we spent per person at the hall and we lied to her for personal yet very good reasons. She did find out we lied b/c she sent someone else to the hall for prices and harassed us.
Other than that noone knows what my FH and I have spent on everything else. We figured we're paying for all of it (even RH) so it's none of their business.

Re: Do U Tell
my parents know how much the RH is costing because they are paying for that. FH doesn't even know how much it is. he didn't even look at the price when we picked the RH.
the band & ceremony location FH is paying for so we will both know the cost of that.
the limos, photo/video i am paying for so i will know the cost of that & probably my mom & FH will know because i don't want to get ripped off.
FMIL will be paying for the flowers & rehearsal dinner so she will know the cost of those items.

Re: Do U Tell
My parents, sister and his parents know our budget - otherwise we arent sharing the details with people. I have mentioned costs of photog and flowers to my cousin/BM, but no one knows our exact budget.

I made the mistake of telling everyone. I didn't know it was supposed to be a secret! People asked!!!
I did the same thing. My parents gave me half and I told them what we were planning to put in for the rest. Random people have asked me what my budget is and I think it is the weirdest question to ask. (someone at work asked me the other day and I kinda wanted to tell them it was none of their business)

Re: Do U Tell
when someone asks I tell...i think its good for other people to know so that 1) they have some idea how much it costs for when they get married 2) they know to show up with a decent gift

No, I haven't told anyone what the budget is except for the message boards, I think unless they are helping you pay, it's really none of their business....
