You don’t need a passport until next year, but it’s always better to have one, JMO.
On a side note, DH and I went to Couples Negril and LOVED IT!!!!!! I am so jealous!

We went to Couples Swept Away and loved it! DH didn't have a passport and they really gave him a hard time. It wound up taking him much longer than it did me with a passport.

wow! lots of us 'Couples' HM'ers here We're thinking of going to CSA or CSS next time.
DH had his birth certificate and it was a royal PIA everytime he had to take it out to show our papers... which was every 5 seconds when we were leaving.

I just went to Jamaica last week. You DO NOT need a passport. As long as you have your original birth certificate your okay.

If you go there on a cruise you don't need a passport, just your birth certificate.
If you are flying there, I believe you do need one. Call a travel agent and ask, they would know what places require one.
Even if you don't, when traveling out of the U.S. it is a really good idea to have this as a form of identifacation, if god forbid something shold go wrong.
realy well mine is in the mail so atleast I'll have it

Enjoy.
It does not make a difference whether you travel by air or sea. When the passport requirements go into effect (December 31, 2006 for the Carribbean), you will need a passport for both air and sea travel.

Our travel agent told us to get a passport for the Caribbean. Maybe she was too early, but we have it. You never know.

I frequently travel between Jamaica, and Trinidad, and you don't need one as of yet but it's best to have one. Less of a hassel!

Re: Do we need a passport to go to JamaicA?
when i went to cancun last june you didn't but the airport workers & travel agent told me effective 1/1/06 you need to leave the U.S. even to go to canada or cancun. I don't think it went into effect but your best bet it to constantly check the dept.of state website, they will give you specifics of where you need it.....If you do need one order it months early, you'll pay less b/c you won't need quick shipping

Re: Do we need a passport to go to JamaicA?
I just came back from a cruise that went to Cozemel, Grand Caymen and Jamaica. Out travel agent told us that we both needed a passport and everyone that we saw had one. The only people who did were kids.
