Do you Agree?

Re: Do you Agree?

The punishment simply does NOT fit the 'crime'. He was on lunch, it was a VERY important phone call, and even if he did get rude over it, he had a bit of a right to. A detention would have been sufficient.

If the school was aware of his mother's situation (which they may have been) and they could actually see the phone number of the incoming call (probably really long because of country codes and stuff) then they should have relaxed.

This kid may have lashed out, but maybe somebody in that school should have reached out to this kid and maybe asked him if he wanted to talk to a counselor about how he feels having his mom in Iraq. I think I would be a mess if I was 17 and had a parent in the military in Iraq. Someone should try to help this kid with his emotions, not suspend him for 10 days so he can sit in his house and stare at his mother's belongings, wondering when she will be home again!

I agree 100%

SOunds like he probably was mouthing off and deserved it, I think they should never have mentioned the cell phone call. I also think schools should set something up where a student who needs to keep a phone on, because of an illness in the family, a Parent/sibling in the military can tell someone in the school and get permission to keep it on, would solve the problem.

I agree. The kid should not have been disrespectful but #1 he was on lunch, #2 the teacher should have backed down immediately due to the situation and #3 give the kid detention for being rude not a 10-day suspension that will go on his record.

I agree 100%. He's mother is Iraq.

This article soes not describe the defiance or disorderliness...

Cann't come to a conclusion from only this information...i feel the info is biased to make you feel bad about his mother being in Iraq

i HATE things like this. i was on my cell phone in hte cafeteria in HS as well Senior year and its ridiculous that you haev to hide your cell phone use. as long as you are respectful in classes why cant you use it on your recreational time? I mean, I was 18 years old. A legal adult (by most standards)
I can't stand that type of stuff.
Sometimes (most of the time) teachers get on a power trip about rules.
