Do you alter your gift based on the RH, or day of the week?

Original post by HSsweethearts

If someone's getting married at a more expensive place do you feel you have to give more as a gift? Do you give less if it's a Friday vs. Saturday?

I dont think you can really base it on the day of the week or the place, because in the end you really dont know what the person spent. They could have picked a very inexpensive venue, but added every single extra. So, I typically give as much as I can regardless of day or location. I've actually started to give a bit more than I used to b/c I see how much more weddings cost than I ever expected.

I agree with what everyone else said (closeness to the person is what matters most).. but I do also alter my gift based on how many other wedding related gifts I purchased for the couple. For instance, if I have to pay for an engagement gift, bridal shower gift, etc. my wedding gift will be less expensive. I don't know if other people do this.. but I can only afford what I can afford per couple--no matter how many other wedding related parties they may have.

My relationship with the people...I haven't been to many wedding but I know if I have to go to multiple functions giving $$ my gift may be a bit less but I will always find a way to know how much they paid pp to cover my plate + some more

ETA: I don't base it on the place or day of the week either

i do. it all depends on the person too.

closer friends get more money.

if i go to a wedding that I KNOW is more money I will def try to give a little more... just because I know they spent more on it.

i think it's a combo of all things.

i dont take into consideration what day of the week it is or the actual rh and how much i know it costs to get married there. i would however give probally less if i was going to a wedding in small town in the middle of the country or something where i knew the standard gift was much less. above all, i take into consideration the closeness of the person. i wont go lower than a certain amount though for wedding in the area or for most of ny. if i felt soo not close with a person, i would rather just decline to go if thats how i felt.

No, I base it on what i can afford and how close i am to the person. If my friend was getting married in city hall and having cake in her apartment i still would give the same amount as if she was getting married at oheka castle.

I agree-i give what i can afford and go up depending on how close I am to the people getting married.
