Do you and FH talk about your finances???

This was brought up in another post that we talk alot about the wedding, babies and houses but do we all talk to our FH's about eachother's finances?

If one you lost your job what would happen? What type of debt are we getting ourselves into? When you marry someone you marry everything about them including any debt.

I know FH and I talk about finances all the time. he is debt free and I am not, I have school loans. He knows what he is getting into. He is also better with finances than I am. He is a saver and I am spender but we talk about this.

I was just wondering if everyone has had these types of conversations with their FH's and if you havent maybe this will spur that conversation.

Yes, I brought it up in the last post that we've exchanged credit reports. We also know what one another's paystub and bonus is like. We have a good picture of what are actual financial sitution is.

Like you guys, I have some student debt yet- he is debt free. It was important for him to know what he was getting into. He's SO responsible.

we talk about it all the time, and thank god FH and me are both savers, of course we like to buy things sometimes, but when it comes down to it we know we gotta do what we gotta do

Yes, my FH and I talk about out finances all the time. We have to make sure we are on the same page in terms of savings. I.e., he is not spending or I am not spending too much.

We always check in to make sure our financial goals are the same, like buying a house, saving for kids and retirement.

It is so important for couples to do so, since a lot of couples tend to fight mostly over finances.

We live together, so we have to know each others' finances. He knows what kind of debt I'm in with my student loans and credit cards. . .and vice versa.

We combined finances awhile ago and we have a combined family budget now to pay all of our bills and we each get an allowance for personal spending. He read a book on debt (we both have student loans, a car payment, some credit card) and he came up with a plan to get out of debt and save up money for a house. Every month we sit down and look at our statements and see if we stuck to our budget (he's better at it than I am) and see if we need to revise the plan based on our goals.

He's much more of a stickler about it than I am. I always pay my bills but I'm not always so good about knowing where I spent my money and sticking to a budget.

we ALWAYS talk about finances - FH is very serious about saving and making sure the bills are paid, etc. it's great having him take care of everything!

just about everyday. lol.
he has tought me a lot about finances and saving but never tells me not to get what i want. We are actually both very similiar with our money and we are very lucky to not have any debt (except a morgage)

Yes we talk about it...but we always make sure it's not when we are in a bad mood...had a long day at work or anything...b/c then we'll just fight. HAHAHA. We started our first joint account like 3 years ago, so we were always on the same page.

Yes we do. FH has no debt (besides his car) and I have significant debt from school. We have talked about that and a timeline for paying it off once I graduate. We have also talked about what we will do with our bank and credit card accounts once married and when we feel we will be able to start looking for a house.
Because I will be making about 2-4x what I am making now once I get a job, we plan on seeing a finacial planner after the wedding to figure out retirement, investments, mortgages, etc.

We talk about it, we usually discuss our status about once a week-two weeks. We're in pretty good shape luckily, and we know what we have to do. We're both pretty frugal, so that helps too.

We live together and already combined our bank accounts etc.. plus we own a condo and are paying for this wedding so we don't have a choice but to talk about finances 24-7

we do more often than not..fh is actually really good with money so we have planned out what we r going to do and so far its been ok but ask me again when actually move in

Yes, we talk about everything. And I work in Financial Services so of course this is important to me!

I know how much FH makes and vice versa. We don't live together but we have already outlined a budget that we are starting in March. We both save and conrtibute to a joint account and pay our bills on owr own for now. When we get married, I will be handling the finances and all accounts.

We have to talk about it because we have about 250K in student loans so we have serious budget talks so we can plan for a house.

We do talk about it and I usually get chest pains when we do..

Anyway- he has credit card debt and I have school loan debt.

Either way I think that realistically we're pretty much always going to owe someone money..just like the majority of people.

I've accepted it.

We have always talked about it from the beginning. We are both in debt..lol...me with CC's and his student loand and little CC debt... its not bad..not where we can't pay our bills and still live so we are ok -- we are both sensible people., so if we have to wait to buy something or go without , we can. My ex husband had to everything NOW NOW NOW........ that's kind of how i got myself into my debt now...stinks...

The only difference w/ me and FH is that I stress about the finances and he is VERY laid back... I wish i could be like that!!!
