Do you consider your DH's nieces/nephews yours too?
I was curious. When I refer to my husband's nephew or niece in a converstation I say 'Scott's nephew' not OUR nephew. His nephew is 7 and his niece is 4 so I was not in the family when they were born. They just started calling me Auntie Michele a few months ago. Do you all do the same thing?

wish we could. We are both only children so no nieces and nephews. Though we have friends we are really close to and their kids would most likely call us aunt and uncle

I don't yet I guess because we are not married yet. But FH did sign his nephew's card 'Love Uncle Tommy and Aunt Jen' recently so I guess right after the wedding they will call me Aunt. Right now I don't think they know or care who I am -LOL!

I still refer to them as Don's nieces or nephews. ONe of them was even born right after we got engaged and I still don't really consider her 'my' niece. They all call my aunt christine though.

I met FH when his nephew was 2. He is turning 8 in October. But he learned to call me Wanda and that has just stuck. Which I find to be weird b/c in their culture anyone that is older than you becomes an Auntie or Uncle in your eyes. I also say Carl's nephew. Not my nephew. I don't know why I just don't.

Brian calls my niece,'OUR niece' when he speaks about her. The first time he did that my heart melted. It sounded so sweet coming from him.

FH has to nieces, one calls me Michelle the other I get to refered to as Aunt Michelle, since she is only 9 months old.
I do consider them my nieces too, because I ahve been around for all of their life, well we started dating when his first niece was 2 months old.

I say John's nieces. Though the day after the wedding the 2 that were here called me Auntie Tracy. It felt weird. I think also that they live 3,000 miles away that I don't see them that often & don't know them that well. But I think if a new baby was born I'd say they were my niece or nephew. John on the other hand thinks my family is my family. Even if a new baby was born he wouldn't consider it to be his niece or nephew.

Al and I were dating or married during the birth of all his nieces and nephews (2 of each). I'm only now starting to refer to them as 'my' niece/nephew and not 'Al's'.
Those that could talk started called me 'Zia Lisa' once we got engaged. But they don't add the Zia all the time (they don't always add the Zio for Al either).
Re: Do you consider your DH's nieces/nephews yours too?
I love DH's nieces and nephews as my own...sometimes they call me aunt...but not often...but they don't always call John uncle...usually Johnny...
When I talk about them I sometimes refer to them as DH's nieces and nephews...otherwise people will think my sister is PG or had a baby...
I think in a few years...I won't think twice about saying my nieces and nephew
my cousin was married 6 months after I was born and I always refer to her husband as my cousin...he is part of the family...and I think of him as blood

Yes we have 1 niece who is 3 months old. I couldn't possibly love her any more than I do!

my niece will be 2 1/2 when we are married... so we already started saying 'uncle mike'... so that when she starts talking she'll only have to learn one name.. we sign all cards with aunt & uncle...

They call me aunt Nina but I call them Fi's nieces/nephews when i refer to them. Force of habit.
