Do you ever feel like someone is in competition with you?
I have someone VERY close to me who is getting married a few months after me. She is doing everything exactly the same as me and its making me nuts. She booked the same hall, had the same extras added to the menu, same dj, and I am sure as time goes on this list will grow. ( she is now asking who my photographer is)
I am so annoyed by it esp since we will have a LARGE amount of the same guests.
Its not really her 'stealing my stuff' b/c since my wedding is first I dont really care its just that I had to do such hard work to plan and pick all this stuff and shes just copying everything I do. I decided to stop telling her things but since I have been planning so long she already knows most of it. And b/c her wedding is 6 months after mine she has time to copy whatever she sees at mine anyway.
Am I wrong for this upsetting me?

I would be a little upset, because you worked so hard to do all this research and plan little special things on your own, and now she wants to do everything the same. But I would also take it as a complement, that you just did and amazing job with everything!! And don't worry, everyone will be at your wedding first, so if she copies too much more people will leave her wedding saying didn't we just see that at so and so's wedding, she couldn't come up with her own stuff!! Don't let it get to you too much!! Maybe she is just totally clueless and needs your guidance!!

This happened to one of my friends on here but I won't say who because the other bride is on here too. I know how everyone says it's a compliment to you - but I understand you being annoyed. You could always give her a fake name or two - if you don't want her copying everything...Bottom line, since her wedding is after yours - she's the one who's going to look like a copycat!

My cousin just got married this past September. I had to keep everything a secret. It sucked cause I would have loved to share things with her. They see it as a whole competition thing. Lets just put it this way: she copied the exact centerpiece that I was going to use.Just keep everything a secret.

Since yours is before her's maybe consider it flattering that she thinks you have such amazing ideas. Besides I would feel bad for her and maybe as a friend you should point out that the guests who attend both weddings are going to know she got her ideas from your wedding. Good Luck though!

I agree that she will totally look like a copycat and her wedding will be totally unoriginal. From now on, if she asks you anything else about the wedding, say 'It's a surprise, you will see it on the big day!' Leave it at that. Also tell her that she will definitely want to do things differently since so many of the same guests will be there!

Re: Do you ever feel like someone is in competition with you?
I totally understand. My cousin got enganged a month after me after dating the guy for not even a year. (FH and I have been together for 6) Then, she plans her wedding 2 months before mine. FH and I are planning a weekend wedding and shared that information with family. Now I come to find out she's having one too. I feel like now who in the family will go to two weekend weddings in a two month period. I feel like I am competing for guests. So in a nut shell I know what you mean.

Totally understand--although if you dont want to hurt her feelings--maybe you can try to make a joke of it and say (if you guys are having some of the same guests)--you can start laughing and say 'you know, when your wedding comes, its going to feel like deja vous'---maybe she'll try to see your point
