Do you ever feel pressured to give the same as you got?
I know this sounds strange but here's what I mean....
If for instance someone comes to your wedding and gives $200, do you now feel pressured to give them the same or more? Or just give what you can afford?
I say this because FH said he is going to give his friend a certain amount for his wedding in Vegas, and said he's sure we will get the same amount back from him. I told him we shouldn't assume, since a Vegas wedding is not the same as a LI wedding, and who knows what he can afford to give us. Also, while I have tried to be generous with others in the past, I certainly don't expect the same in return.

We try to match what was given, but there are some cases on both extreems where we will give more or less than what we received. We cannot realistically give 1,000 for the two of us, nor are we comfortable giving 40 for the two of us.

me too...
In addition to that, since the wedding, we've had a few other weddings to attend, and my father keeps calling to find out what the couples family gave us as gifts so he can 'match' it....

I would give what someone gave me, unless a few years have gone by, because things get more expensive as the years go by.

We're going to a wedding next weekend, and will be giving the couple the same amount they gave us.

I agree with not being able to give $40. even if that's what someone gave me (although I'd probably buy them something instead of giving cash) As far as giving more than I would normally, If someone gives me $1,000., I would have to try my best to give that back to them.
