We booked an officiant for our wedding (which is at the reception hall). We have no connection to him, other than I am paying him to be there, and we are meeting him about an hour before we get married. Do I need to invite him to the reception? If not, do I need to get them 'vendor' meals? So confused. I don't want to sound cheap...I just need to know what to do. Thanks.

Re: Do you feed the officiant?
We are having 2 officiants because it is an interfaith ceremony and we invited them to the cocktail hour and they are going to eat there. There is no need to invite them to your reception unless you had some sort of friendship with them.

Re: Do you feed the officiant?
We'll probably invite our priest to the wedding, but don't know if he'll actually come or not...
You're not obligated to invite your officiant to the ceremony, especially if you don't know them (and have no other connection to him/her outside of just the ceremony).
I think usually officiants in that situation would decline the invite, anyway...

Re: Do you feed the officiant?
We used Fr. Tom McCormick and had met with him several times prior to our wedding, so yes we invited him as a kind gesture. He declined but appreciated the thought.
But if you're not meeting your officiant until the day of your wedding, then you don't need to invite them to the reception. And their job is done after the ceremony, so you don't need to have a vendor meal for them either. That's just for those who are with you all day.

Re: Do you feed the officiant?
FH and I were planning on extending the invitation. Just a question (hope this doesn't offend anyone) but if you're only inviting them to the CH and not the reception, does your RH charge you?

No, they do not charge you because they do not do a plate count until the reception.
