DO you give a gift even if you can't go to the wedding?

Original post by FunBride

I'm thinking of sending $125 instead of the usual $200 - $225. Is that too much?

I never knew you gave a gift if you don't go.... however, I have received a couple gifts from people who can't attend our wedding and it's such a nice feeling that people still want to give you a gift.

Yes, we give a gift. How much we give depends upon how close we are to the couple. I have a friend from college getting married in DC a week before our wedding. We cannot attend but we will give $200.

I think $100 is a generous gift if you arent attending. Its all gift, since you dont have to cover the expense of the dinner.
