I'm thinking of sending $125 instead of the usual $200 - $225. Is that too much?

Yes, you give a gift. Not everyone does, but it's a nice gesture. Regarding the amount, I would give whatever you feel comfortable with.

I do, it's usually a little smaller than if I attended but it depends on how close I am to the person.

I always send a gift if Im unable to attend for some reason. The amount I give usually depends on who the person is to us. If its a close family member or friend I won't give less just because I am not attending the actual event.

I give a gift. I gave a little less, only because I wasn't working last summer, and couldn't afford that much. But I think they still appreciated it

yes, alot of our declines gave $100, $125. I think it is generous, considering they will not be at the wedding. Give whatever you feel is appropriate.

Definitely, getting invited to a wedding to celebrate one's union is always a honor to share with. I think $125 is reasonable enough.

I usually send something from the registry if I can't make it to the wedding. Everyone is different though.
ETA: I usually send something in the $100-120something range from the registry, a little more if I was going to have to travel for the wedding and didn't.

I will confess that I did not send a gift to a old 'friend' who I used to hang out with but that was such a drama queen I ended the friendship. I was shocked to be invited especially since we really weren't speaking and she had moved thousands of miles away. I really thought it was fishing for a gift and felt used, so I didn't even send a card
But that was the only time

yes, and i think $125 is on the generous side too, considering thats the average gift a person thats attending gives (and they dont have to pay for your plate)

yes, i think you should still give a gift. maybe not as much as if you attended, but i think it is still proper to give a gift. if not a monetary one, then a material one.

We you invited with DH or FH? If so you may want to increase the amount slightly.

I typically send a gift from the registry--like a vegetable bowl or something...but off hand I can only think of 2 weddings I wasn't able to attend and they weren't close friends (ie I didn't invite them to mine).
