Do you give a gift if you are invited to, but cannot attend, a wedding? If so, do you do this for everyone or just people you are close with? And, for those of you already married what is your experience with people who couldn't attend ?
TIA!!!

You are supposed to give a gift when you don't attend a wedding, regardless of how close. You may vary the size of the gift based on how close the person is.

Yes, I've sent a gift if I couldn't attend the wedding. If it's a close friend I'll send them a check. Depending on how close determines how much of a gift. I didn't give as much as I would if I actually attended the wedding though.

You know, prior to all of this wedding planning, I would see it as a chance to pass on the gift...what changed my mind was NOT a flaming response from other brides, reading a post like this one or anything of the kind, but simply receiving a gift from a dear friend of FMIL in AZ and then a week later receiving her 'NO' RSVP....then it hit me, you should gift in some way even if not attending, it brightens the couple's day and puts a smile on their faces....which reminds me, i gotta send my cousin something for her college graduation next week....off to shop!!

Please don't tar and feather me. Etiquette states that you don't have to give a wedding gift, whether you attend or not. A shower gift must be given, but not a wedding gift. That said.......
I HAVE ALWAYS GIVEN A GIFT, whether I can attend or not.
However, my wedding guests have been hit or miss. I'd have to say 2/3 of those that didn't come gave a gift. Two of the BM that dropped out on me with a few weeks to go for 'financial reasons' gave nothing. It doesn't seem to matter how close you are.

Yes. When we didn't go to a cousins wedding we sent a card and a check.

Yes, I would, but that certainly hasn't been the experience with our wedding!
