do you give gifts when you don't attend a wedding?

Original post by mka06

Do you give a gift if you are invited to, but cannot attend, a wedding? If so, do you do this for everyone or just people you are close with? And, for those of you already married what is your experience with people who couldn't attend ?

TIA!!!

You know, I've actually gone to every wedding I've been invited to. But if I couldn't go I would definitely send a gift.

Please don't tar and feather me. Etiquette states that you don't have to give a wedding gift, whether you attend or not. A shower gift must be given, but not a wedding gift. That said.......

I HAVE ALWAYS GIVEN A GIFT, whether I can attend or not.

However, my wedding guests have been hit or miss. I'd have to say 2/3 of those that didn't come gave a gift. Two of the BM that dropped out on me with a few weeks to go for 'financial reasons' gave nothing. It doesn't seem to matter how close you are.

oh my...well then i'd be screwed if my guests knew that 'cause i am not having a shower!!

OK.... I will go against everyone's opinion above ( I like being a rebel!!!!).

I do not automatically give a gift. It really depends who it is. I have been invited to weddings just for me to bring a gift. Yes, I am not making this up. It happened to me twice. Usually people from work.
