I usually tell my neighbor who walks him in the afternoon to turn it on at about 1 but he went away for the weekend.

we have central air in the in-laws house....but shes a big black dog, so she needs it. Plus we like coming home to a cool room.

I turn it on to a higher temp. than when I am there--maybe 75 or 80--but I definitely leave it on...

definitely. we are in an apt in the upstairs of a house. the cat would fry on these hot days up there without AC.

I leave my AC on 'powersave' at about 75 degrees. That way it will turn itself off and on as needed.
My doggie has a lot of fur and would melt if I didn't leave it on for her.

If we're going to be back in an hour or 2 I leave it on for the cats. Otherwise, we have a pretty powerful ceiling fan which I leave on all the time.

I feel so guilty sitting in the office in AC and poor Murphy, my dog is sweating in his crate.
Be careful doing this...it's like leaving an animal or child in a car with the windows rolled up. Especially since he's in a crate and can't get any relief. Can you leave early? Sorry to panic you, but its brutal outside.
Oh I am getting so nervous now. Seriously, do you think he will be ok?

i do for my rabbits... they can get heat stroke easily if its too hot... so 85 and above i'll leave on the a/c for them. (plus we're on the third floor so it gets really hot!)

We don't.
The cat doesnt like doors closed. He doesnt mind if you're in the room with him but he won't sit in a room no matter how big and be locked in. So we can't just leave all the AC's in the rooms on for him to roam. Too expensive.
Before I was in the picture they didnt have AC's in the house at all!! (Can you believe that?!?!?! )
The cat goes into the basement where his food and litter box is, too keep cool.

We don't have central air and the three dogs would NEVER stay in one room together by themselves all day. We do have ceiling fans in every room except the LR where we have a standup fan on.
They can also go in the playroom which is dark and cooler than the rest of the house.
I do feel guilty when I've been getting home and seeing them pant so much and be so lazy! The little one is 'going to the beauty parlor' tomorrow to get shaved!

You really should not have your dog in a crate. Especially in this hot weather. Sorry, but I don't believe in crating a dog.
I leave the ceiling fans on for my cat and leave plastic bags(with the closed side cut open and the handles cut) for my cats to lie on. They like the coolness they get when lying onit.

without a doubt!!! I have always wanted to keep my little girl cool...but more so now thats hes older...she 'll be 15 in a few weeks and I make sure she is WELL taken care of, she has beds by every AC, in case she needs to rest....and when I lay outside, she hangs out with me by a fan nearby!!!

We used to do the same for our cats but then I stopped and they were fine. But our apartment did not get a lot of direct sunlight so it usually didn't get that hot.
