Do you guys leave the AC on for your pets?

Original post by diamondgrlie

I feel so guilty sitting in the office in AC and poor Murphy, my dog is sweating in his crate.

You really should not have your dog in a crate. Especially in this hot weather. Sorry, but I don't believe in crating a dog.

I leave the ceiling fans on for my cat and leave plastic bags(with the closed side cut open and the handles cut) for my cats to lie on. They like the coolness they get when lying
onit.

Murphy would not be safe in the house alone without being in his crate. When we first got him, he had the kitchen to himself but after chewing off the mouldings and a hole right through the wall, that was it. He had to be crated. He loves his crate though, in fact he has the whole apartment to roam around in while I am home and he is in his crate with the door open. Dogs naturally love a 'den-like' place that is their own special safe area.

BTW- When I got home that day, he was fine.

I totally agree about the crate, it is the safest and best places for dogs to be when you are not home, it is not cruel at all, most doggies love their crates.

We don't have a pet now, beause we live in a 1 bedroom apartment and I don't feel comfortable getting a dog (I'm not a big cat person) and keeping it in an apartment all cooped up all day. However, if we did, I would keep the AC on. it's only fair. But no TV, I would get tons of toys for the dog instead.

I'm also not one to leave the AC on when I'm not home anyway, so that's another reason for no pet right now. That's because our apartment building is old and I don't trust the wiring/electricity 100% and would rather not have it on when we're out. (Im a bit paranoid I guess!)

we leave our puppy in his crate. In fact he feels safe in it, and will go in it when we are home to take a nap.
One time we tried letting him sleep on the bed at night, and he felt lost.
I dont think it is cruel. If they are used to it.
