Which is why I don't watch it or read it. I stay uninformed, but I don't have to cry or shake my head in shame.

OMG... which roller coaster. I'm surprised my mom hasn't called me yet knowing we're going to Disney on our honeymoon.
Is it the same ride other people have had problems on there? I can't imagine going to DISNEY WORLD with your family and having THAT happen. What a NIGHTMARE!

No - this was Rock N Roller Coaster, not Mission:Space. There aren't any details about what he died from yet. for his family.

They only put bad stuff on the news, never anything good- even though the good probably outnumbers the bad. They don't think the good will get enough viewers. I hate watching the news. That is terrible about the boy though.

I made it a practice not to watch, read, or listen to news either until 9/11. Ever since then, I subscribed to CNN alters but I'm considering unsubscribing. It's always horrible things.

the stuff with disney, is usually the persons fault to be honest with you. the kid that died on mission space was i think 3 -5 years old. who puts their 3-5 year old kid on that ride? i wont even go on that ride. they did change the ride now, where you have an option to go on the regular ride, or the ride without much motion.
a person i think died, or was in bad condition after riding the tower of terror i think it was like 8 times in a row. um wouldnt you think after riding a ride like that numerous of times you'd be in bad condition?? haha morons

A 12-year-old boy died today after riding the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney-MGM Studios theme park, officials said this afternoon.
The boy was declared dead en route to Celebration Hospital after the 11:30 a.m. incident. His name has not been released.
Disney World officials said they closed the attraction 'pending an investigation,' but added that an 'initial review of the attraction shows the ride was operating normally.'
'We offer the family our deepest sympathies,' Disney said in an statement about 2:46 p.m. 'A company representative is with them providing assistance.'
According to state records reviewed by the Orlando Sentinel, this would be the seventh person whose death is associated with attractions since the Christmas season of 2004. The most recent was in April, when Hiltrud Blumel, a 49-year-old German woman, died after riding Epcot's Mission: Space simulator ride.
The coaster, known for its fast start and pulsating Aerosmith soundtrack, is the second-fastest ride at Disney, with a top speed of 57 mph. According to the Disney Web site, 'This attraction pulls between 4 and 5 big, fat, monster Gs. Space shuttle astronauts, by comparison, experience 3 Gs at liftoff.''
The indoor ride, which opened in 1999, catapults people from zero-to-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, then takes them through a make-believe night in Southern California in a 24-passenger stretch limo. The ride climbs to 85 feet and goes by Hollywood landmarks on its way through five inversions.
It has the tallest height requirement in Disney's four parks -- tied with Animal Kingdom Primeval Whirl. (There is a 52 inch height requirement to drive at the Magic Kingdom's Indy Speedway, but you can be any height on that to be a passenger.
The fastest ride at Disney is Epcot's Test Track, which can reach a speed of 65 mph.
Do you remember about the woman who was thrown from the ride at Adventureland last year? I wonder what ever happened with that.

i was talking to my mom about that the other day!!
and i think every single issue thats happened with disney, they've had health problems. i just found out the kid that died in mission space was 4 and had heart conditions. the mother is just a horrible woman then!
and i think the same thing with that 49 year old woman, had heart problems. they clearly state if you have all of these conditions, dont ride the ride, or ride at your own risk. blah

I totally agree! The kid who died on Mission:Space was 4. I was thinking, 'I would NEVER put a 4 year old on that ride, even if they WERE the height requirement.' What if his body was too fragile to handle the ride at that age?

Re: Do you hate the news as much as I do?
Isn't that morbid? How people are more likely to watch a news story about a death & destruction than a happy-go-lucky story?
Phsychologically, maybe it's because it makes us feel better about our own lives, that we're lucky not to have that happen to us.
Or maybe it's just morbid curiosity. *shrug*
An update on the boy, the family says he was in good health. But it's possible there was a condition that they did not know about. It's happened before.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida — The father of a 12-year-old boy who died after riding a roller coaster at the Disney-MGM theme park told authorities his son was in good health and did not suffer from any medical conditions.
Byron Russell noticed his son, Michael, became limp while they rode the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster along with his mother and 7-year-old brother Thursday morning.
When the minute-long ride finished, Byron Russell pulled Michael off the ride and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, said Barbara Miller, Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
The boy was pronounced dead after he was taken by ambulance to Celebration Hospital, Disney said in a statement. The cause of death was not immediately determined and medical examiners planned to perform an autopsy Friday.
'According to the family, he was a very healthy child,' Miller said. 'The father repeated that he was healthy, he had no problems.'
A Disney spokesman said the company was assisting the Fort Campbell, Ky., family.
'Our deepest concerns are with the family,' said the spokesman, Jacob DiPietre.
