Do you have any guests just staying for the cocktail hour?

Do you have any guests just staying for the cocktail hour?

My friend just told me that she has to be in D.C. early the next morning after my wedding, so she will be there for my ceremony (she's doing a reading!) and for the cocktail hour, but she'll leave before the reception. She even said 'at least I'll save you on two dinners!'. Now, she'll probably come up for the introductions and first dance, but she's not eating anything at the reception.

Obviously, I don't tell my place that she'll be there, right? They only need to know how many placesettings?

I've never heard of that, but I guess you wouldn't count them in for a head count.

No... don't count him!

But is he gonna eat the salad? At least mine is leaving before eating ANYTHING at the reception! Tell yours to do you a favor and leave before you have to pay almost 100 bucks for FIELD GREENS!

I have four people doing that. They have another wedding to go too. I am not given them in to my hall as a head count. I figured they will go unnoticed at the cocktail hour. I hope I get away with it.

I had one person that was CH only. She asked my dad if she could 'crash' the ceremony which caught him completely off guard so then he invited her to the CH. We didn't tell the hall.

No, you don't need to tell your RH. Only give a head count for the number that will need a place setting. If it is just one person, there is no way they will know. If it's 10-20, then they might notice!

Never heard of it, but I guess it's an ok idea...I wouldn't pay for her meal. If she says she wont be there for it then she shouldn't

We had one couple ask if they could come to our ceremony because they were unable to stay for the reception. I told them absolutely and they should stay for the cocktail hour. I didn't put them in the head count or anything. I wil say, though, that I think your friend should have really asked your permission before just inviting herself to your cocktail hour (just for etiquette sake).
