Do you have to.....

Register before your Engagment party? FH wanted to at first; but I have my doubts. Keep in mund the wedding is in 2006 and most things we register for will be gone or discontinued by the time the wedding rolls around. Please help!!! We are both clueless

I would def register for a few things now in case someone wants to buy you something for your engagement.

And, then once the wedding is closer, register for the everything else.

I would not register, JMO. Gifts are not required or to be 'expected' for an e-party. I think registering for it might look a little bit premature.

I didn't register for mine so I guess that makes me biased though. FH and I discussed it and both agreed that we felt our Engagement Party should be about our families meeting each other for first time and getting to know one another a little bit before the wedding, not just about us. We still got lots of gifts (and best of all, lots of cash ) but for anyone who asked we told them 'best wishes only please'.

see, now the reason we don't want to register is b/c we want $$$, which seems so tacky i know but there is no other way for people to know what to get us without saying on the invite, 'only cash' who would do that?? Any other wedding related thoughts??

We registered for our E-paty and got so much stuff for it. No it isnt required to bring a gift for an e-party. and usually u get money but... only in NY do u get money for a wedding and not a gift. We registered Feb 2002 and have to go rergister. Since some things are discontinued,

Re: Do you have to.....

thanks for your help!!! our biggest prob is the fact that the wedding is in '06 and our party is later this year. i suppose we should wait until its closer to our wedding then we'll go to our favorite store, Target, and register.

We registered at Target and Fortunoff. Target is our favorite store. we registered there for stuff like appliances Fortunoff we did China crystal that kind of stuff. My neighbor had A huge problem with Target when she registered there and tried to return things. And A lot of people will say they have a horrible return policy but I still love that store.

funny, I've heard the same things about their return policy. but we'll still go there for all the necessities, were gonna need everything, we don't live together yet so the registristry will be huge.

We don't live together either. I say go and register now. ITS FUN! You just have to be careful. Register for a few items photo albums and frames and stuff like that. This way people have a choice Good Luck.

Register for some basics now. You can always update or change or add later on.

I didn't register and I got a lot of presents anyway. I think you should register for some things but don't go crazy. Some people will want to bring you a gift. Why not pick it out yourself!

Re: Do you have to.....

Good Point!! my mom more or less said the same thing, b/c she doesn't want everyone calling her asking what to get us. Maybe in a few months well go to Target (love that store) and pick out a few things.

it could go either way..probally better to not include where u are regesitered at...but if someone ask me..then i will tell them.. (in this case, you would have a few items on there)
