Re: Do you have to give away the centerpieces??
You don't have to but it is easier getting rid of them, you might wind up with them or depending on the catering hall they will throw them out or give them to the employees. I know this because I work in a catering hall.

Your guests look forward to being able to take it home-I think most people expect some sort of 'game' but you can just let it be up to them if you'd like.

Re: Do you have to give away the centerpieces??
You don't necessarily have to play those games but there are always guests who want to go home with a centerpiece and the games are a way of having someone win it fairly. You don't want someone getting upset if someone decides to take the centerpiece.

Re: Do you have to give away the centerpieces??
It makes it easier to give them away. People tend to fight over who takes them home, so to be fair people devise a game to give them away.

I have never been to a wedding were you play a game to win a centerpiece, and I've been to alot of weddings. I think who ever wanted it, took it. Or maybe I just don't pay attention. What kind of game do you play?

They usually have the Dj tell everyone to look under thier chair and if there is a penny they get the flowers, ot he dollar game. the dollar gets passed around at the table and when the music stops that person gets the floweers

Re: Do you have to give away the centerpieces??
my centerpieces have a mirror, candle stick, votive holders and a ring of garland and flowers. All separate pieces. Can't see anyone wanting to take all that with them. Any suggestions?

Re: Do you have to give away the centerpieces??
personally, I don't like the games -we didn't do them. I've been to weddings where they do the games and while its cute, I think it assumes that everyone is vying for the centerpiece and thats often not the case.At our wedding, some guests took centerpieces and some tables left them there. The ones that were left were scooped up by our mothers who were thrilled to have them.

Re: Do you have to give away the centerpieces??
one game I've seen played is the person who'd travelled the farthest to get to the wedding gets the centerpiece. Great, but some of those people probably flew there - they're gonna take a centerpiece on the plane?

Re: Do you have to give away the centerpieces??
Our DJ did a really funny thing, he had everyone looking under their chairs for a penny (there were none) and then he had a woman at each table stand up and tie their napkin in a knot and pass it around to music the person who ended up with the napkin had o untie it and drap it on their arm and he said the would be the tables drink server for the night!
Then they passed the napkin to the right four people and they got to take the centerpeice home. It was pretty funny!!

Re: Do you have to give away the centerpieces??
I wanted to guarantee that my mom got hers so I told the dj to just make an announcement that the person with the closest birthday gets the centerpiece - quick and simple (and my moms b-day was 9 days after the wedding)my mom ended up giving it too my cousin
also when people were leaving...if they had a centerpiece with them...I was able to wish them a happy birthday

Re: Do you have to give away the centerpieces??
I have never been to a wedding where they did any games and don't think I want that doe at my wedding either. My centerpieces are very big heavy floating candle dishes with glass stones & a lighthouse in it. Don't think they will disappear to easily.
