Re: Do you have to give favors?

theres no rule about giving favors, but i think it is generally expected that you give something as a thank you to guests...if you are on a budget, you can donate $1 to a charity you support for each of your guests....i saw this once and i thought it was a nice idea...the bride and groom attached a note to the tulle with almonds that said 'a donation has been in your name to xxx charity'...

Re: Do you have to give favors?

I just did picture frames for the seating cards. They were inexpensive and easy.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

No, you don't have to give favors and the almonds in tulle is fine. So many wedding favors end up in drawers or the garbage, it is a real shame for people to spend so much money.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

Just to make you feel better, at Jewish weddings, favors are not usually given. Personally, I don't think it's essential and I don't think your guests will be offended.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

While I agree many favors that are given become dust collectors, I do think it is tacky not to give anything. If people make the effort to come to your wedding and give you a gift, you should really make an effort to properly thank them in return. The favor does not have to be pricey, but I think something more than almonds in tulle is necessary (almonds are usually attached to the favor, they are not the favor themselves). It is just a token of your gratitude and not doing it sends the wrong message.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

Wacky, you are not obligated to give favors, but it is a nice gesture.

I would not go as far as to say it is tacky not to give a favor, but I want people to walk away with a momento of the day.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

You don't HAVE to do anything you don't want too. It's just customary (sp?) I guess, to give a little token of thanks!

Re: Do you have to give favors?

I don't think you have to do favors. I wouldn't miss it if there weren't any. Thoughtful favors add a nice touch. But I wouldn't stress too much over doing it or not doing it.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

I think you should give me, just because personally for me jordon almonds would kill me if I wasen't careful.
I have an extremely bad nut allergy and it could ruin things if another guest had this problem and was affected at the recpetion.

I think you should so something, whether it be candy, frames, CDs. I think the almonds in tulle is fine. I gave out Krispy Kremes.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

If I didn't have to I would not give them. What is the use anyway with these things? However, if we didn't it would be the crisis of the families and I will have to hear about it... I don't understand the concept of a favor. Never have never will. Unfortunately I have no say in it. The one thing I am letting my mom decide on.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

I dont think it's necessary, but your guests may feel different. Everyone looks forward to the favors whether they keep them or not, it's just fun.

I'm doing CD favors, not expensive at all, just takes a little bit of time. An aunt wants to add something to it as a gift for me, she makes favors. We'll see, if it's not tacky I'll let her.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

I was thinking of doing the almonds and the donantion as well. FH disagrees with me. He'd like to give a favor. I guess it's up to your individual taste. I felt that the favors were a waste of money and just got tossed aside. I've got so many little trinkets that I never use and thew them out when I moved. I thought the donation was a good idea and to put the $$ to a better use. (It's a little personal, my Mom has had cancer twice and faught it and won twice, and his grandparents passed away from cancer) I figure every little bit counts so other people don't have to suffer some day.
I think we'll end up doing favors though, I don't want to make an argument out of it.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

I don't know the rule on favors but I know if the wedding is really nice I would not miss it. Some people look forward to favors.Like I have a friend that has saved every single favor she has ever gotten. She even has the edibile ones. Personally I throw that stuff away most of the time. Although it seems times are changing and people are realizing more how people throw them away so I sense that brides are starting to give out useful favors. I always suggest something edible or something the guest will actually use. We did cds and so far the response we got from our guests is that it has not reached the garbage yet.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

Favors are really a regional thing. In some states brides don't give favors at all. I know it is really popular here on the east coast. Many times favors are left behind by guests and catering halls end up throwing so many out! Do what you feel comfortable with. Donations are a really nice idea especially if it holds some meaning for you and your FH.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

Wacky,

I also want to add that you should do what is in your budget.

Though I am doing favors, it is not a high priority for me, as is Photography, and music.

I.e if getting a certain type of favor is going to eat into your photography budget I would say do without it.

Also, I forgot to say the Almonds with Tulle is fine, just get a personlized ribbon and you are all set.

Re: Do you have to give favors?

I don't think you have to give favors, the almonds will be fine. Ive been to wedings where there was no favor given (usually Jewish weddings) and I never even noticed it was missing.
