you dont 'have to' do anything technically, but it is proper to give favors. majority of people expect a little gift at the end of the night. I know people who have not given anything as favors and I didnt care, but they still hear about it from their families.

It is definitely a personal choice to give a favor. I too have been to several Jewish wedding and not one gave a favor.

I do believe the custom of almonds in tulle orginates with the Italians as my mom (Italian)pointed out - which is known as confetti. I think Americans liked the concept and incorporated it into their own weddings and it is now a full-fledged business! We of course gave one, a silver plated ice cream scoop (with the jordan almonds - had to! ) wrapped in tulle with the customary ribbons with our names/dates on it. The guests can keep it intact, eat the almonts, use the scoop whatever!!

I definitely do NOT think that giving just almonds in tulle is tacky. It is just fine. Favors are a personal choice based on budget and taste.

Thanks ladies. The almonds will be wrapped in a pretty sachet actually and will be personalized. I see at the end what I have left $$
