do you have to HAVE a rehearsal dinner?

do you have to HAVE a rehearsal dinner?

i get that the rehearsal is a must... but do you have to provide for the dinner? our parents have already contributed generously towards the wedding so the rehearsal dinner (if we ever have one) will be paid for by me & FI.

the thing with throwing a rehearsal dinner is that... we would have to invite 60 (yes SIXTY!) people. this includes the spouse (and even the entire family for some) of those who are in our entourage. with that many people, even if we find a cheap restaurant, we will still end up shelling close to $1k. this by itself is almost an intimate wedding reception!

are there brides out there who skipped the dinner and just had the rehearsal?

Do what's right for you. People should understand that hosting a rehearsal dinner for 60 people would be quite a burden.

this is kinda tough..... most people are accustomed to a rehearsal followed by a dinner. u dont have to spend a whole lot. maybe u could have something catered at somebodys house? im sure it wont come out to $1000 if u cater it as opposed to going out to a restaurant.... but imo i would definitely provide some kinda of food... even if its a dessert and coffee type of thing.

eta:: the weather should be nice in august so many u can have a bbq???

hahaha.. my mom just said this exact thing last night.

Imo... yes. First, at least in our situation, the 5-6 people in the BP who are married did have a rehersal dinner which me and FH went to. Even those that didn't have an actual rehersal had a rehersal dinner.

I wouldn't wanna be THAT couple.

JMO

Edit: It'll def cost more then 1k. I'm having 45 people and at $35 a head w/tip it comes to about 1800. I budgeted $2500 for the RD so I'm under my particular budget.
Maybe you can have something more low key, a bbq or something.

We aren't having a rehearsal, I've been in one wedding in which it was done right before, just walk with this person, stand here, walk back like this. We are having a little get together the night before the wedding, likely at a house, and just getting catered inexpensive food, like a hero and stuff. Nothing crazy. We really can't afford much! We just thought it would be nice to spend some time with our families and guests that came a long way to see us, since the wedding goes so quick and you only see some people briefly. But if you're having a rehearsal, it's pretty much expected that you will feed these people that are doing this for you. You could do something like pizza and ice cream even! It's not super classy but who wouldn't eat it???

With our hotel blocks we can get their conference room for free, so we are having a little celebration their. We are planning on getting food from costco and showing movies of us on the screen they have in there. This is our take on the rehersal dinner, as we don't have the funds to do this either!!!!

Due to limited funds we are doing a RH either. I have a huuuuuuge suite at the hotel that everyone is staying at. So we are having our bridal party, 9 people including children, in my suite the night before to give them thier gifts. We are going to have some food and drinks there for them. We figured this would be most cost effective and more intimate. Also this way we wont feel obligated to invite everyone
