Re: Do you have to have an engagement party
we didnt have one. We decided that people would be spending so much on the shower and the wedding that we didnt think it was fair to have an e-party in addition. SO, we had a dinner with out parents, siblings, their finaces', godparents, and FH's grandmother

Re: Do you have to have an engagement party
No one in my family ever had an engagement party, so I didn't see the need to have one either. I figured between the shower and the wedding, there will be enough money spent and enough gifts brought. We're having a get together with our families, but that's just so that the wedding day is not the first time they all meet!!

no i didn't have an official one. I had rented out space at Bar 13 ($300 for VIP section for the night with own bathroom). I had all my friends there to celebrate our engagement. Everyone had a BLAST!!

Re: Do you have to have an engagement party
We had a 'Meet the Family & Meet the Bridal Party' about 2 Saturdays ago. Since our bridal party is HUGE & FH family is huge, we still had about 60 people. It was in FMIL backyard & catered. It was awesome! We had so much fun & people didn't feel obligated to bring gifts (even though a lot still did )

We were going to have one (thrown by his parents) but his father pissed me off so I canceled it. My parents would like to still do it for me.

Thought i was doing something wrong. Thought maybe a little barbeque or something in backyard. Is that to Trashy
no way is that trashy!! there are no rules to an engagement party - they can be as elaborate or as simple as you like. i think a bbq would be fine.

Necessary-absolutely not! We prefered not to have one All we did do was have dinner at a restaurant with my very immediate family and his very immediate family.
